It is truly a pleasure to see that graceful Air-Cam piloted to perfection and showcasing the STOL capabilities. The filming captures the essence of flight and you really give us what we want. Take offs and landings. Brilliant camera work running alongside the extended launch. Please make another video. You guys know what you're doing. Man…that acceleration. I counted three or four second take offs.…one while still turning.

Engines on this AirCam have been 914 from the beginning and are still in use today with the reversing props. Advantage is more than 30 plus horsepower and single engine takeoff from lakes for safety and ability to land and take off in lakes as short as 250 feet.

Jeremy, The AirCam takes about 2800 hours (this was my second) and another 6-9 months for the Montana 2200 amphibious floats if you do all ten work yourself. AirCam now offers a quick build kit. Key things to think about are: acid etch and epoxy prime every part, use the new 912 IS engines for 115 HP and simple maintenance, rather than the turbo 914s. Ed

The answer to those questioning why IFR? To be able to file IFR to depart through a low fog layer to VFR on top which is common. Also, to file through Class B airspace when controllers won't accept VFR flight following due to work load. Otherwise an IFR panel is not needed, but nice to have.
@SuperAviatar12 жыл бұрын
IFR panel is useful to allow flight in non VFR. Like when a morning mist cuts vis to less than 1500m. You would be amazed how often this happens over rainforest..... Support the move to allow these aircraft to be certified for use in the UK. It is such an unusual machine, the committee process will take a few lifetimes. I've wanted one for years.....

Great video to highlight a great aircraft. The V.G.'s bring the stall down to about 32kts. @ max gross. Amazing!

@KingOfBanks I have about $170,000 in it with the 914 engines, reversing props, and an IFR panel.

What an amazing plane. So simple, yet genius. What is the cost of the aircraft here as is?

Have you re-engined this AirCam? I may be mistaken, but in other videos, it appears the engines did not have constant speed, reversing props. The sound of those turbo 914s seems distinctly deeper - more throaty. I contacted AirCam & they discouraged the 914s due to a reduction of useful load. Personally, I like the thought of reversible props & 30 more horsepower. Any thoughts on advantages / disadvantages?

+L Roberts Why not go for turboprop engines for those birds? No one needs piston vibration!
@MajorCaliber5 жыл бұрын
@@henry2008kim A) have you ever *priced* turbine engines?... B) are there any this small that are FAA Certificated for human flight?... C) Piston engines won WW2, and are thereby "Forever Badass" (just like the Air-Cam); D) Horizontally-opposed "boxer" piston engines are naturally balanced, and have very little vibration--just as with a turbo-prop, the majority of the vibration comes from the propeller itself, beating the air at a given frequency, NOT the powerplant... HTH... ;')

Very cool! I've been thinking of building a similarly spec'd AirCam. Did you do the build yourself? If so, how long did it take you? Was it your first? I'd love to ask a few more questions via email or phone if you're willing...

Nice craft! But wouldn't you be better off drag and cooling-wise to cowl the engines? I know the 914 cylinders are liquid cooled, but aren't the heads still air-cooled?
@KenLeonard3 жыл бұрын
The jugs are air cooled and the heads are liquid cooled. No cowl works just fine for rotax with oil cooler.
