In this video, our Turbo Honda Civic D15 Blew up strangely after we did some mods. other sleeve cracked after hydro-locking and pushing the head gasket out of place. we pull the cylinder head off to check what happened.

The D series engines are very weak in standard form. Luckily they are pretty cheap to get sleeved with some rods and pistons and you are good for some decent power. Hope it all goes well for you, it happens to all of us eventually!

Yes, very true, this motor did not like the boost, but yes, the next one will be stronger

Just a simple block guard would of given you fair more headroom..d15b is the one to use if you can find one

i think u need a block guard, should help the sleeves from moving around under high revs n boost

Hi, thanks for sharing, I have come to the same conclusion, it alwasy blows the headgasket in the same spot on the back of the sleeves. The next build will have a block guard to prevent sleeve shake

Rebuild the D series. Then dyno it. Btw great build, love it!

I feel like stock internals can only hold up 8 psi of boost 😅maybe 9 bc you guys freshened it up but that’s it I’m planning to run 6.5 or 7 psi on stock internals y8 maybe only I’ll be happy with 175-180 hp tbh

Hi Alex, that's about what we had here, 186hp at 8psi.. but this motor just always blew headgaskets... the junkyard D15 non-vtec motor we had before ran 5.5psi with no problems. I have seen stock D16 run 10psi for a long time with no issues, so it is possible. 180hp is a lot of fun for a street setup, though, you will enjoy it

I haven’t seen a good vatara build front start to finish on KZbin. Get speed factory rods, ycp pistons but most importantly hand port the head

What kind of waste gate are you using? I dont see a wastegate arm on the turbo

@larryp85 Hi, using internal wastegate, it's under the turbo. had to modify the bracket to allow me to clock the turbo down.

Yeah, usually if you didn't put any block guard, you destroy head gaskets everytime and in the end, your engine himself.

Yes... The one I had at the time did not fit correctly so I left it out, next motor will have a block guard.

I say stick with the D, those Ds are wonky when it comes to boost so you gotta make sure and do it right, stock internals can handle 250hp but obviously you personally might wanna make more lol so just get a css block or sleeved block, vitara pistons, speed factory long rods, why? Because those rods are the same length as stock, golden eagle rods are shorter than stock rods. ACL race bearings, a good cometic head gaskit and some valve springs, stock cam is good but you can upgrade it to a BC cam , get good tuning someone who knows how to tune those things because timing is what kills those D series and bro you'll have a blast with that thing, only limiting factor would be your gear box, good luck with the build bro 🔥

@@RisingBoostYT a turbo d-series is a lot of fun and cheap but sadly the block gotta be strong enough to take it but a sleeved d-series block is very cheap and worth the investment trust me. Don't Forget when putting in aftermarket rods you gotta notch the bottom/ end of the cylinders to make clearances so the rod can have room when it's being rotated by the crank. You can always look it up to see exactly where to notch. It'll be a fun build

@@RisingBoostYT notching is very very easy, I'm not sure if the sleeved block will come notched already but the process is very easy a 5 year old can do it lol all you need is a dremel tool and that's it

Your ignition timing is too high. Try lowering timing in boost

Hi Richard, I know about the ignition timing and Dseries, my tune ign is fairly low, probably about 15 deg at 7psi. personally I think the issue is block related, during "run in" I was running 10 Deg at 5psi and it still blew the head gasket. I may have failing threads in my block, because my old stock non vtec motor never had issues at higher boost and ign. but thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Very valid point... cost per hp is probably better spent on a Bseries, much more reliable under boost.
