Turbo ka24de 240sx setting idle and base timing

In this episode we will be attacking the base idle and timing on the turbo ka24de after the engine rebuild. Prior to the rebuild I tried to tune out the bad cylinder with the fuel & ignition controller. In the process of doing that I got the idle air valve and throttle position sensors all out of wack.
I'll show you where these sensors and controllers are and what I will be doing to get things set back up the way they are suppose to be. It is not difficult to do, you just need some basic tools and a timing light. You can pick up a timing light on the outerweb or at your local parts store for around $40. I use the Innova 3568 model.

How do you route your Idle Air Control Valve for boost? Should I just route it right before the throttle body? Or should it be routed pre-turbo to always have a vacuum?

I have my IACV routed to the cold pipe in front of the throttle body. You want the IACV to see boost, if not the the idle adjustment screw would be a vacuum/boost leak.

The car is currently still using the factory ECU with an AEM FIC piggybacked to it for fuel, timing, MAF lock and O2 control.

What timing light are you using, do you find the tach on it to be accurate? Thanks

Hello srmx5, I use an innova timing light. Not sure of the model, but it is one that is compatible with 4, 6 & 8 cylinder engines. I find that the dash tach, light tach and FIC tack are all within 50+/- rpm of each other.
