Couple of years ago I drove from Northampton to the Matra museum just to see the Espace because it was so iconic. I basically planned a whole road 10 day road trip around that one exhibit. The whole museum was brilliant. I was expecting to look at the F1 and be bored by the rest of the place but it’s a proper little gem. Loads of history and it’s obviously maintained by genuine enthusiasts, not just someone looking to make a quick buck.

To answer your question regarding the wheels, the answer is: those are exactly as they always were. That's because there were two Espace F1, the one with the wheel dishes, orange lights on the rear spoiler and partial blanking of the front air intake was a static model, the one featured on the video is the fully-functional one...which always wore those Ronal centre-lock wheels.

However the most shocking for me was hearing "Matra", because I thought to myself "That old factory simingly every elderly person around here worked at ? WhAt a CoiNcIdENce !" Over the years I'd vaguely heard of the Matra museum in the city but not much more, especially since I don't really know anyone around me who's into cars. Then I looked it up to be sure this was it and... now I'm absolutely dumbfounded that I've been living 20 miles away from it (literally drove there yesterday), AND I must've passed in front of it 20 times learning how to drive in the school that's 200m away... thanks Drivetribe ! :D PS : In my defense the museum isn't advertised a ton and is located in a small street deep in the city lol

I remember seeing a photo of this back in 1993 when Alain Prost drove it. I thought they'd just stuck an Espace van body over the top of the F1 car for a laugh. I had no idea until later on, that it was actually a more bespoke build, and even had seats in the back. I'm surprised this concept hasn't been pursued by other companies, as a way to give members of the public a go in something F1'ish.

That's the holy Grail, right there - the coolest thing on wheels. I can not begin to describe how utterly jealous I am of Mike getting to climb all over the thing... damn! On a side note; let's be honest - those 90s (and earlier - first car-game I played was Out-Run back in 1986) computer games really sucked. It wasn't until the early 2000s that games were any good really, with smooth driving dynamics and cars that did not look like lego-brick-builds. No nostaliga in the world can hide that fact. Also - I can not believe the Espace F1 will be 30 years old next year - how the hell did that happen...

It's a different element, a different beast requiring skill to get something that size round a circuit. I'm glad it has its original engine and I wouldn't want to change that. I think modern games should be bringing classics back like this into their catalogues. It was awe inspiring just like seeing the toyota GT One for the first time. The mazda 787, legendary lotus players, group 4 legends like the wurth capri and moby dick porsche. For me reading about and watching group 4 cars and the marvels of push the boundaries was just amazing, engineers absolutely pushed to the limits. The FIA will never allow such cars to exist ever again. RIP turbo F1 cars, downforce skirts, actuator suspension, multi wheeled monsters...
