I really like that you can do some plug and play stuff like turn off fake engine noise with some of these programs. More practical than a delete or some jank rewiring stuff especially on a car with CANBUS.

Boost threshold launched me onto a roundabout much quicker than I was used to when I test drove my current and first turbo car 😂 it was steady, steady , then... Whoosh.

Totally agree, I'm a huge car enthusiast and still learning to drive :) I have had the same experience quite a few times. The car I am usually driving is a Mazda 3, 2.0L, N/A, i4. Whereas the car my grandma owns is a Skoda Fabia. A tiny little engine at 1.8L i4 though it is TURBO!! As my grandma is quite the enthusiast herself, she does let me have fun in the car and I most find the boost most abbrupt in a corner of in intersection. Generally taking off from the lights. In the Mazda it is always a sort of tourqy but very linear curve of power, easy to control and understand. Though in the Skoda, if I'm pressing my foot down quite heavy then it takes a corner and then WHAM! Boost kicks in. Now it isnt any 40PSI monster, though feeling the car jump foward and the turbo actually doing its job always puts a smile on my face. I also found what you said to be very true, the boost threshold begins so low in the rev range it is always shocking! Thanks for the video and congrats of the 100K!
@SkateEverythingProjectАй бұрын
Dude amazing explanation!! I might not be the sharpest knife in the drawer but I watched the Engineering Explained video and multiple other ones but once I saw you demo the "to the mat" throttle at boost threshold and then you wait for the response, it finally all clicked for me! Thank you so much!

The current G87 is the best muscel/sports car BMW is building at the moment. I was a bit skeptical about the design at first, but I like it more and more... but only in black. Nevertheless, the F87 remains my favorite. If I did want to part with the MX-5 at some point and really wanted to buy a BMW, it would be an E85 3.0i and of course a manual. But before that would happen, I would rather do a budget turbo conversion on my MX-5 and that's why I'm watching this video.
@MickDrivesCars5 ай бұрын
I've seen them in real life in all colours now and they've all looked better than the photos. I saw the darker red colour on the road for the first time a few days ago and it actually looked fantastic. But yeah - black's #1. Put a baby snail on the mx-5 and you'll have no problems with lag. Go too big and you'll only have yourself to blame :)

when i was 17 i used to “steal” and drive my dads car in the neighborhood when he wouldn’t notice/not at home. i’d just put it in sports mode and jerk the pedal since i was afraid to go fast. one time i got the courage and i kicked it, it didn’t even break traction, until the turbo kicked in and me losing control of the car just doing a small skid. never touched the sport mode selector until i got my license 😂

Huge congrats on the channel milestone mate!! Very very well deserved. One question I had was about whether this car is overkill for UK roads? I rented an M2 G87 on a road trip through Europe and it only felt like I could truly push the car to its limits on the German autobahn (getting up to 150mph and above!) I know we have nice B roads in the UK but it just feels like you can lose your license way too easily in a full fat M car…! Any thoughts from yourself or any other viewers would be great!

Thank you! I'm in two minds... 1) yes it's too much for the road. Many, many, many times I put my foot down and do a speed I can't show 2) god it's fun though. And if you use that power to unstick the back end you can have a lot of fun without actually going fast I'm working on a full review which will cover this and more

i needed this video and you uploaded it at the right time. i drove a turbo car for the first time recently. i drive a 1l NA but this car that i drove was a 1l turbo. This car performs excellently above 3,000 RPM, but its performance is notably poor below that threshold. my car has much better performance in the 2k - 3k band so i was a little dissapointed with the turbo lag. but now i understand that driving habits need to adapt with the car not the other way.

I’ve a diesel with a VGT turbo and the turbo is loud, I can hear when it’s got the boost and I can feel it under the throttle, when it’s got the boost ready to go just a little bit of throttle and it’ll be taking off quicker than it would in a lower gear.

@deionshepherd13314 ай бұрын
Please explain the difference between turbo lag and throttle response. This is theoretical in my head but given 2 of the exact same engines where only 1 has a turbo on it, I would think that the actual throttle response is the same the only difference being power curve is larger on the turbocharger. Is this correct? Or no. If not please explain.

I wonder something, because this is my situation. My parking lot is a slope, where I park my car using reverse gear (the trunk is on higher elevation than the bonnet). My car is NA, and due to the slope, I need to rev my car around 2000RPM in order for it to climb backwards in the final 80cm distance. Even with NA, the RPM spike to climb feels like jolt that want to launch the car backwards into the wall (I need to hit brake ASAP when the launch happend) My question being: in turbocharged car with low RPM threshold, how do you manage to only climb but brake in short moment. Does the jolt from a turbo is really a strong launch that has potential to overshoot the distance?
@Rewind-xq6xs5 ай бұрын
Do the same in an Audi A8L you will notice the 0.5 to 1s turbo lag. It is an apparent problem, just not as significant as people think. And sometimes it is also related to the gearbox, get a CVT natural aspiration old Audi A6, and compare it with a 6AT 6 cylinder natural aspiration other car, you will also notice the CVT responds faster than 6 AT

BMW 330E is probably one of the best cars that doesnt have turbo lag as the electric motor assists it till the turbo also kicks in.The car is best of both world electric and petrol.Don't really see whats the point of going electric when cars like 330e makes so much sense as it also does around most peoples daily comutes on electric.

Yes but then it's heavier because it's carrying both drivetrains... So you don't get the best economy in pure EV or pure ICE But for mixed use, I agree. Brilliant. Similar to the E-evt hybrid Corolla

Beat shout is if possible later on in the day go to a empty car park with parents, learn with them their not always the best teachers so you need to be patient. Common mentality is being scared too, so learn the car stall it a few times on purpose see what happens when you break to stop no clutch etc. And instead of a fear of unknown you’ll gain more confidence as you know nothing really bad is happening.
@impactedbinkie54185 ай бұрын
If you really don’t want to do lessons and in the uk, get a provisional and learner insurance it will let you drive a car on the road in the presence of a 21+ year old. That will give you much more needed experience required for the driving rest as you can learn driver behaviours in a empty car park. If you have a older person which wants to help you it’s possible to pass your test with 0 lessons. Just learn what’s on the test and focus the most important things when out on the road when you get comfortable just driving normally. Hope this helps
