A new retrospective channel subscriber and a longtime retro gamer from Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮. I still play the original hardwares of the Commodore 64 (tapes / disks / cartridges) and Amiga 500 😺👍🕹️. I just recently found your channel, and it retros so awesome 😺👍🕹️. Thank you 😸😺👍🕹️.

Pretty slick! Impressive what can be done without the SID and VIC2.

Yes it is a feat of marvel indeed :)

thx for this review. the og outrun on the 64 was a favourite of mine and I always wished it would be available for the Plus 4 too! great conversion by TCFS!🚘

Yes! Every time TCFS brings something else out my mouth drops. Then they do it again! 😀

I have no interest in the commodore 64 and before I got into retro I had no idea there was a commodore 16...but your love of the c16 kinda just makes me want to watch. It's comforting, easy going and a clear personal passion of yours, so to me it's perfect late night in bed youtube content just before going to sleep.

Ah thanks for the nice words. There are some little gems on the system and I just think it didn’t have a chance back in the day to shine. Today many quality home brew titles and conversions are being made.

nice version on the plus 4, I like the colour palette for drawing pixel art.
@RetroRecollections6 ай бұрын
Yeah me too - they did a great job with it.
@captaincorleone708810 ай бұрын
Not bad at all - it has to make C16 and Plus/4 owners wistful as to what kinds of games they could've received in the hands of the right programmers and had hardware sales not fared so poorly in North America/Western Europe.
@RetroRecollections10 ай бұрын
Yeah it was definitely because making games for the system wasn't commercially viable as opposed to the capabilities of the platform that we didn't get better games during it's lifetime. The games being developed in recent years are exemplary.

is that music being made by the plus4 TED chip? sounds really good like the SID
@RetroRecollections10 ай бұрын
It is the TED! I was shocked that they got that sort of sound out of it too.

better than AMIGA
@RetroRecollections10 ай бұрын
Very true! Have you seen there is a new AGA version of Amiga Out Run being developed? I have high hopes for that.

Did you upgrade to the plus 4 back in the day? If the Plus/4 was a bit ignored, the 16 had to be outright abandoned.
@RetroRecollections10 ай бұрын
Nope I was stuck on the C16 unfortunately. Luckily in the UK most games were made for the C16 and not the Plus/4 (lowest hanging fruit scenario) and was a moderate success with games steadily being made into the late 80's long after it was discontinued.
@tarstarkusz10 ай бұрын
@@RetroRecollections There are a few modern homebrews show with the right programmer, you can get some pretty cool games out of the TED hardware.

Nice video, but I can witness that away from this emulated one, it sounds and plays better on a real machine 😉
@RetroRecollections10 ай бұрын
I’m sure it does- my Plus/4 still needs some work but when done I will be playing this on there. Hopefully my skill will improve too! 😆

This was a big favourite of mine as a kid, but loading from the tape was painful. It even came with an audio soundtrack in cassette, presumably to kill the boredom of the huge loading times but the graphics still look good today. I imagine it was so much better on disk! The graphics on the plus4 version look superb, it always lacked a decent software library. They’ve done an amazing job. Is that your Commodore monitor, it looks to realistic for an emulator?
@RetroRecollections10 ай бұрын
Hi Andrew - I can imagine, I used a disk image and that was slow enough on the C64 version so what tape was like oh boy 😆 Like I said before on the video I had the Master System version of the original Out Run and that is great and of course no loading times. The capture is unfortunately all fake at the moment while I obtain everything I need to play on real hardware again. I do have a C16 and a Plus/4 now but they haven’t been tested yet. Looks good though, using an overlay in OBS and standalone emulators.

I guess your C64 has a SID that isn’t up for playing samples. The music sounded very weird on the intro!
@RetroRecollections10 ай бұрын
Actually it's running on Vice but from my research newer SIDs (possibly three ones in the C64c short boards) had issues with the samples on this game so I guess Vice is emulating one of those, I didn't check. I'll play it on real hardware when I get my C64 back up and running.

@@GelatinousThunderDonkeyThe variance across the line was quite something. I had a C128. That did play samples, but quietly. However, not almost silently as in this video. I distinctly remember enjoying the Turbo OutRun theme in that machine (if not the actual game, this version of which I never saw the appeal of).
