I live just outside of the town where 6060's little sister (6069) is on static display, very cool engines.

Back in the 70s this this train would do excursions from MTL to OTT. And back. During these trips they had what you'd call a photoshoot. Where everyone would get off the train and the 6060 would uncouple a few cars , back up a few miles up a small grade. Then would pick up steam then as you would see that thick black smoke and the train a comin. It would come flyin down those tracks faster than any train ive ever seen. One of the coolest most awe inspiring thing ive ever seen. Chugging that smoke out flyin past. Now , if anyone has any videos of this............... .

Bullet Nosed Betty used to burn coke i know i was the "engineer' at 13 yrs old for a 20 min trip from Gravenhurst to Severn Bridge Ontario and the fireman was sweating like mad for the excursion. the fire belched out of the firebox every 2-3 seconds and in August it was not too cool. LOL

CNR retired it, did not want to show boat it like the Union Pacific does. Don Getty (Alberta Premier back in the day) and the Alberta Government bought it for the historical significance, kept it operational. Was in Edmonton at the Alberta Railroad museum for a period. The Alberta prairie steam railroad ran into issues with the leased steamer from the states and asked if the Alberta government would put this loco into action on the little line and has been doing retired work for quite some time. I wish they would put this baby back on the main line once and awhile and strech her legs cause she will keep up with the diesels in operation today no problem. So all in all, shame to CNR is right. Stupid corperate insurance issues as well keeps it off the main line.
