TiAL BOV Real vs Fake (Tear Down and Sound)

We've got a fun little experiment today, how well does a knockoff Tial bov compare to the real one? Lets find out by taking both apart and hearing them in a head to head test. Enjoy!

maybe the smaller depth allows for a more concentrated release of pressure, but as for the springs i'm not sure. I can say that the suction is probably better on the "real" ?

Fake works well, just make sure to take it apart and take a good look at it and make sure the diaphragm isn't pinched. Make sure you unscrew the bottom piece plate(that faces the flange/charge pipe) and load it up with red Loctite, too. Mine came loose and I am very lucky it didn't end up destroying my pistons and heads. It was caught in the flange.

Plot Twist!! They were made in the same factory using the same tooling. The "knockoff" version is just using the parts that didn't pass the Authentic quality standards of TiAL and a few lesser expensive parts (steel band vs machines aluminum). This is "very" common in the auto industry. Most autoparts across different "manufacturers" are really made in the same plant with different labels slapped on the box

Korishan I bought a charge pipe and bov together for $120 on Ali Express. The hks Bov it came with is as functional as it gets. Came with the hks ssqv papers too. Functions and sounds the same. It's the same thing, had a few scuffs on the outside which is probably why. I wouldn't risk it on an external wastegate though.

Actually this knock off Tial is the V1. But I’ve rebuilt plenty of them with mostly authentic Tial parts. They do great actually.

@@JQ_Unity wait a year, itll leak at at the bov O-Ring and they're pretty damn hard to find. Saving on the front end is only gonna cost you on the back end.

You could've at least use a spring pressure tester to test the spring pressure, and also an actual air pressure test to see at what psi the real vs fake bov starts to leak.

I run the fake 50mm. It works well, but I have to say this: TAKE IT APART AND LOOK IT OVER BEFORE RUNNING IT. My flange plate(the part that faces the charge pipe/intake) came loose and was rattling around inside my flange. I am lucky the hole was too small to suck it into the intake, otherwise my head and pistons would be toast! Load that sucker up with red Loctite before you run it!

I've tried many bov's some knockoffs work suprisingly well. They really are simple devices. My two favorites are the Forge and NGR type S.

The knockoff is copying a Tial 50. The genuine is a Tial Q. They would sound different even if the 50 was genuine.

You can tell the real TiAL vents a bit faster, but I actually prefer the sound of the fake, hahaha. I love how that car looks. I actually prefer the Z31 to the Z32 and that has to be one of my fav colors.

One note. The fake one you have to make sure the bottom plate on the bottom does not dislodge. It happens with fake tials on n54 bmws.

Had to go into the garage and make sure mine was the real deal 🤣. I think the most noticeable difference is the shape of the BOV at the bottom. Real has a C shaped curve while the fake one is flat then a 90 degree angle.

The fake one sounds allot better and louder. The only thing that trips me out is the material and build quality of the diaphragm. I would think the fake one would go bad sooner due to cheaper stuff but who knows.

You need to compare apples to apples, the black tial is a q version and the red is a 50mm old version. You can find this two different versions on Egay as well for around 70 dollars compared to 275 for a real Tial Q or the 50mm old version of Tial, to me the Q sounds better in the authentic version of course but the Egay version it doesn’t sound bad, but vacuum & boost leaks is what separate authentic since the knock off tends to leak.

I just want to point out that these blow-off valves will sound different if you use different Springs. you need to redo this test using the same spring in each.

Thing is, you're testing 2 different versions of Tial BOVs. The fake one is a BV 50 and the real one is a Q type...the different versions have different spring rates for vacuum at idle. Pretty apples to oranges test minus a general quality review. The Q type has wider outlets so it doesn't sound as aggressive by design.......

Around 7 yeaes back I've installed fake hks on my evo as i couldn't afford a genuine.btw it still ran fine while all the genuine guys had errors 😂. recently did the titanium piping and tial i don't really think bov is that primary as i run 3071gen 2.

Typically with any of these copies, yes. It's actually what most people recommend. Buy a fake, use a name brand diaphragm and seal, Loctite the bolts. Goes for BOV, FPR, and wastegates.

Original tial bov : - aloy clamp - all screws are chop - diaphragm a lot deeper - diaphragm seal are soft rubber - serial number approve by TIALsport.

Alright we all love BOV sounds but shouldn't we be comparing how well they perform instead of which one is louder? Like a pressure test? Like if the fake can hold up to whatever boost your gonna run then yeah get the fake one, it's cheaper, more$$ for other mods. I'd like to think that I wouldn't buy a performance part just to make a louder whoosh

Not being biased, I have to say, not all knock offs are bad. This fake one comes with steel v band vs real(alloy). You have to be honest steel is way better and stronger. Sometimes you are paying advertising fees,administrations fees, logo fees, extra polish, middle man.....and so on. All these fees added up 7X of basic knock offs. Where when comes to basic and simple, the fake one is just as functional as the real one. And if you want vent quicker and shorter-increase the preload.

Only difference is the release port on the (fake one is machined bigger) so more sound,more air, smaller ports,less sounds, they function the exact same, unless one has a tighter spring!😒😕
