Using that equipment you can test, set and diagnose problems with electric west gate actuator and variable veins for tubos: Garrett Hella VNT, BorgWarner KKK Siemens VDO VGT and Mitsubishi.

Over boost is caused when the locking nut is lower down towards the end of the thread, set it up so there is about 10mm of thread showing after the locking nut. This tester only test the load on the solenoid, you need to adjust this whilst the car is running in idle with a diagnostic tool showing charge air pressure actual and adjusting the nut up until the charge air pressure actual is matching specified charge pressure.

Basically move the linkage arm that adjusts the veins on the turbo up the thread for less boost (this opens the veins) and down towards the end of the thread for more boost (this closes the veins) it’s best to adjust it 1mm at a time until you get the right pressure at idle but mine is set up so the linkage arm is about 10mm up the thread 👍

Seems like you know a lot about this turbo things. I have a bmw 1 series with 118d engine, and same turbocharger on it. I accidentally messed up my turbo adjustment while swapping the engine, and seens having a decrease fuel consumption, no boost, and today i found out that egr valve is always in open position. So, I don't know exactly, if turbocharger does anything with fuel consumption? But recently I saw one comment, that decrease fuel consumption can cost egr valve always in open position. If you know anything about these things, and can give me a little advice, I will appreciate that.

@@takeasis9464 the EGR valve will definitely make a difference but it’s normally when stuck in the closed position you see poor mpg. This is because the gases are not being recycled and the engine is I taking fresh air with more oxygen…. The more oxygen consumed the more fuel will be injected into the engine to ensure the correct fuel to air ratio. When it comes to the turbo let’s say the linkage arm for the turbo veins are set low on the threads of the actuator, this would close the veins giving high boost when at low rpm which is correct but if they are closed too much you would get high boost pressure at low rpm, then when at high rpm the veins won’t be open enough to provide the right volume of air. so you would be forcing lots of fresh air in at low rpm giving poor mpg and also if the veins aren’t open enough you will not get the volume of air at high rpm giving poor boost at the top end. Veins closed- high pressure low volume Veins open - moderate pressure high volume.

Thanks for responding. About my egr valve, it's always open position now, and car runs seems normally, just stinks and fuel consumption decrease. If I close egr valve manually, car even won't start. About turbo, I tried everything, actuator all the way down, it loses boost, all the way up, it makes noise like nocking and jumping 24/7 even key is not in ignition. I just changed the egr valve, and new one is also always in open position no matter what I do, and impossible to close it even manually with hand, it's like stock and tide. I it is suppose to be like that when it is normal. But old one easily opens and closes with hand. So, I have no idea what's going on, and what can be reason that egr acting so. I'll take any advices and will try. Thanks in advance.

can you comment how to use setting on a 3.0TDI with atd-1? i found out that the common failure is seized contact of brushes on the motor rotor inside the actuator - which can be repaired, before it makes also a black film on two contacts coming from the electronic to the motor)

yes ,maybe not so perfect as with "tester" but yes.Need turn nut left or right on electric actuator arm,depend if needs droping or lifting the pressure.Then needs look at pressure in Inpa,Ista.Maybe you know whats the stock turbo pressure ? on this turbo

I have just fitted a reconditioned turbo and actuator and it is boosting very little until 2.5k then boosts hard, if my shroud is set wrong could that be my problem. Cheers

@@mattchapman3222 actuator was set wrong on my turbo, took it back and they set up up again, basically the nut wanted screwing further up

johnredtop1 ok thanks I’ve been living with it for 6 months but looks simple enough to get to without removing the turbo again so I’ll have a go at adjusting it as mine seems fairly high up currently when fully open. I hope it fixes it as currently sluggish up to 2.5k then goes like a rocket after that

W n47 nie ma regulacji na turbinie, przynajmniej na CHRA nie ma. Chyba elektronika steruje w 100%. Moze sie myle

całowicie błędne ustawienie !!! trzeba ustawić przepływ, a nie tak jak na filmie !!! wprowadzanie w błąd !

mdrozdzik thanks- can you set up the open setting by manually moving the actuator to the full open position and then moving the vnt lever to full open position? I have over boost and the inlet manifold has keeps blowing off- it broke one of the bolts that holds it to the cylinder-any ideas? the inlet fans are a litle damaged on my turbo-would that cause over boost?
