10. A turbocharger may also be used to increase fuel efficiency .
11. This is achieved by recovering waste energy in the exhaust and feeding it back into the engine intake.
12. By using this otherwise wasted energy to increase the mass of air, it
13. becomes easier to ensure that all fuel is burned before being vented at the start of the exhaust stage.

18. Aircraft. In High altitudes the pressure drops, so turbochargers helps to improve the efficiency.

That's in petrol engine. In olden days, we can only use in diesel engines to compress air. But now a days, injection systems are used in petrol engine also instead of carburator. So we can't use it when the carburator exists.

No, normally carburettor job is to mix air and fuel for combustion, but this mixture will not be fully utilized in combustion process in engines there will be always some loss in transmission of energy. That unutilized air is expelled out through engine exhaust. This unutilized air from engine exhaust is sent to turbocharger or supercharger to compress and sent it back to carburetor for combustion. It just feedback circuit. Now More combustible air with high temperature for engine, so it burns the air easily than before so more power.. Thats it.
