Owned a 2001 KDX 200 for years. It was an absolute battle axe and I should have never ever sold it. It took every ounce of abuse possible and was crashed nearly every day I rode it. Totally unbreakable!

I love how all these new school kids complain about mythical engine braking because in reality they are mad they are stuck with these bunk new four stroke "earth friendly" bikes, even tho they aren't even an better for the earth. 2 stroke smoke till I die (or I'm riding my street bike).

How’s this thing to run out on longer trips? Love the idea of plating and dual sporting a 2 stroke don’t care about the top end rebuilds. Though

It's runs until it gets low on gas, then you fill it up and it runs some more. I had no issues with general on road usage.

We played kdxs all the time in the 90s. Went thousands of miles. Without rebuilds. But going from street to powerlines or fields. Is a blast. As long as we put dirt or mud on the plates. 2 strokes are a blast for this.

Well for those that say engine braking is bad check this out, in texas if a motorcycle cop sees you coasting with the clutch pressed you will get a warning or ticket because coasting without either braking or accelerationg or atleast engine breaking is illegal and dangerous atleast in cali and tx that i know you always have to be in control specially since you can be in the wrong gear and if you have to move out of the way you are to late

Why do people say engine braking is bad i don't see any bad in it, if its running its getting gas and oil even if its engine braking, its like saying four stroke engine braking is bad because it gets no gas jaha if it got no gas or not enough it would turn off
@Oilslikgarage5 жыл бұрын
Omero juniorv engine braking isn’t bad at all. When you let off the throttle, the vacuum created by the engine sucks in air but no fuel since the throttle is closed. This slows the piston as nothing is is being ignited to force it back down. There’s no harm in it

what was the top speed
@TurbodanNM9 жыл бұрын
+Rowdy Williams About 90MPH. The speedo reads up to 80 but the needle was pointing to where 90 would be. With even taller gearing it could go faster.
@SirrBassius8 жыл бұрын
Are you sure? My 01 kdx200 with as far as I know just a pipe and 14/47s will do 93 on GPS running slightly downhill and me laying on it. Mine almost acts like it wants slightly lower gears. Couldn't imagine running something that tall
@SirrBassius8 жыл бұрын
That bitch is damn quick though. I doubt mine accelerates that fast. Maybe it's just cause I'm used to it
@TurbodanNM8 жыл бұрын
+Sirr Bassius Don't forget to factor in altitude. I'm only making 80% of the horsepower up here than I would get at sea level. Running my current gearing peak power in sixth gear is around 80-85 MPH. Running faster than that is getting into the overrev where power falls off fairly quickly. At 90 it feels like its ready for another shift.
@SirrBassius8 жыл бұрын
+TurbodanNM damn. not sure exactly what altitude I'm at but wide open in 6th mine almost seems like it don't have enough power to push it to overrev unless I'm going slightly downhill

too much engine braking
@TurbodanNM8 жыл бұрын
This is a common misconception about two strokes. I dont run them any different than I would run any other engine. Oil migration is negligible with the throttle closed, whatever is in there stays put. I've been engine braking all over the place with this one for over 3000 miles and it still looks great inside. Just had it apart to replace a transmission bearing. No piston scuffing, main bearings still feel like new, crank is still in excellent shape, cylinder plating shows no wear. I laugh when I read about people pulling their clutch in to coast down a hill. Its just ridiculous.
