I spent forever looking for a fuel filter that would fit my 72 and it wasn't until I rebuilt the petcock that I realized. Yep. There is the fuel filter. I'm having a good time watching this rebuild series.

Because we know how good you are at restoring things it certainly will be worth taking the bike apart and doing it completely. That bike is going to look better than new when your finished with it. Someone one day will have a beautiful bike. (Just like the Catalina and Galaxie.)

Been riding it.... put 42 miles on it yesterday, trying to burn the nasty gas out, so I can clean the inside on of the tank. Once the cottonwood seeds are done, then maybe I'll start disassembling it for paint.

Howard, great find! That Honda 250 will last for many years to come! I would switch it over to synthetic for engine and trans but make sure it's wet clutch compatible. Cool video Thanks!

I use "Mobile 1" for bikes.... it's 100% synthetic.

@@OldCarAlley Which weight do you use? I use 15w50.

@@micksterboone4517 The bike recommends 10W-40, so thats what I use. Been running 10W40 in my XL175 since it was new.

Tomorrow I going to clean the gas tank. I ordered a carb kit too. Once its running perfect with a cleaned out fuel tank, then I think I will tear it apart for paint.

I have ridden it a fair amount since I got it road legal. Trying to burn the nasty gas out, so I can clean the tank out.

It looks bad though. I want to get top dollar, so I need to make it top notch eventually. For now I have been just riding it.

That bike is looking sharp. I use a chain wax. Wondering what that buffer wheel is that you use. I just use a wire wheel on the bench grinder.

I show buffing parts on my 72 CB500 in the latest video, with the buffer I use. Got it at Harbor Freight.

Those poor cats are getting it again. I’m a qualified cat-man from way, way back. Cats dig a little hole in the ground, do their business, and cover the hole back up. Male dogs are the culprits. That’s why fire hydrants need painting regularly. Cats definitely do not lift a leg to pee. 😂

The garage stunk of cats, there was an opening in the wall where they come and go to get the food the past owner put in his garage for them. A male car had been spraying on the rear wheel. That corroded everything in that area.

I have a 75 and need to change seal on clutch push rod. From what I can tell in need to split cases. Can I leave top end on and access seals inside trans case ? Feeling lazy. Thanks
@OldCarAlley
@OldCarAlley 3 ай бұрын
I don't think the case needs to be split.... I changed the one in my XL175 without splitting it. I drilled a couple tiny holes into it, to run sheetmetal screws in it and pulled it out with pliers. I tapped the new one in, done. Hoping the case docent need splitting on the XL250, as it has a small oil leak I got to fix on thats side..... I think it's the shift shaft seal. I'll reseal the whole engine.

@@OldCarAlley unfortunately on 1975 xl 250 the seal is inside the case . You can see if from outside either cover removed but to access and install, engine out and cases split.
