It was a truly memorable evening. The 1960 Eldorado was a sensational vehicle. I'm glad we stopped and talked with the owner. We did a whole lap on Woodward which I had never done before. Thanks for the experience, Howard! I'm hoping the weather forecasts change and it turns out to be beautiful on the actual cruise day! Let's cross our fingers!

Sorry we missed you. It's so loud out cruising, causing me not to hear my phone ding. We did one full lap.... it took hours. I'm meeting up with a group of about 30 friends this evening. I am thinking of taking the XL250, due to limited parking with all the cruisers out. I may come back and get the Bel Air for a lap after our dinner meet up. We reserve 30 seats a month in advance at Crispelli's at 12 & Woodward for our meet up.

@@Martin48964 I looked at radar, it looks like the rain is closer than expected, so maybe it will be through by Saturday. I hope it docent rain this evening, as I plan to take the XL250 to dinner this evening...... If it does rain, I'll take the Escape, maybe even toss the REO Trikeabout in the back. Who knows I might even put some gas in it and ride it around their parking lot if it's not too wet "if" it is crummy weather.

From a Patch article about the Woodward Dream Cruise 2023 "Expected to draw more than a million visitors, the Cruise will also put an estimated $240 million into the local economy, according to a Crain’s Detroit Business report." That's a good thing.

It the largest one day automotive event in the world. Press and people come from all over the world to Michigan to see this event. I have already seen dozens of other states license plates on Woodward. It's become a Summer long event, with cruisers out almost every evening from May to September.

Gridlock didn’t seem horrible yet. We’re heading up from NE Ohio this morning. We stay at the Residence Inn outside Pontiac. Really convenient to Woodward Avenue. The owner of our hotel also owns the Marriott across the street and blocks off the back parking lot for evening parties with a band, food trucks and beer. They even have a burnout lane.

The week nights are not to bad, as most locals have to work, so they head home 9, 9:30ish. The weather man is predicting rain Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so it very well could be a washout this year. I can only remember a few cruises when it rained, but not an all day rain, which is what they're predicting Saturday. I remember seeing a Mustang convertible sitting with its top down, when it poured rain one year. It had a good inch of water floating around on the carpet.

5:25 - Pfaff built Imperial Speedster. Motor Trend and others did articles on it. It was cut down from a 1959 Imperial Crown 4 door. The dash is a 1960 Imperial, but the console is custom. Many tasty bits on this epic home-built car. I believe it took almost a decade to build, and the builder has since sold it after doing a few years on the show and tell circuit.
@OldCarAlley
@OldCarAlley 3 күн бұрын
I didn't know he sold it, but was wondering when I saw a much younger man driving it. At first I thought it might be his son. The builder was my age, or a little older and is a retired high school auto shop teacher. He built the car in his home garage. I wish I had videoed some of the conversations with him about the Imperial. He wanted to purchase my 59 Bel Air to build a car for his wife. He did buy a 59 Bel Air four door sedan, using 59 Cadillac sedan four door components, he built a pillar-less four door Bel Air sedan. It came out nice. I see both cars out on the cruise circuit often.

Im replacing my strut rod bushing on my 65 Galaxie. They were all dry rotted and coming apart. For the castle nut at the frame, does that need to be cranked down squeezing the bushing and add the cotter pin? Does the alignment shop use this point to adjust caster? The one's I'm replacing are cranked way down but not enough to pass catching the cotter pin. Thanks. Your videos have been very helpful. I took it to the NSRA Nationals in Louisville ky and was a great ride from Georgia.
@OldCarAlley
@OldCarAlley 3 күн бұрын
Yes, there is a torque spec., but I don't remember what it was. I think tight is good enough. The strut rods don't adjust the alignment.... the upper control arm is where the caster and camber is adjusted. It takes special tools to do the alignment on the old Ford's. Hopefully you have an old school shop that still has the tools. If not, you can make them, they're like a short turnbuckle with hooks on the ends.

The VW Bettle and Bus were very nice. Remember all the '68 Mopars have the round little fender lights. Chrysler forgot to incorporate the side lights in that years design when it became law. That was a cool little car show. Those ‘59 Chevys are really cool. ‘58, ‘59, and ‘60 Chevys are some of the coolest classic cars ever made. That dark blue and white ‘59 at first I thought was yours because from a distance it looked like it was black and then when you got close to it, oh it’s blue. I also love the ‘60 Buick Le Sabre and the ‘55Pontiac convertible.I hope your leg gets better soon so you can go cruising in your awesome ‘59 Chevy. I enjoy watching your channel. The evening events I go to are cruise nights. There just informal gathering of cars and their owners with no judging. That dark blue does look black for a distance. I love vintage and tacky Christmas lights and decorations. It's a problem for me, as I have thousands and thousands of old C9 and C7 light sets and bulbs. Thankfully they're not huge, like cars.... I can't imagine having thousands of cars. Old vintage fans tend to take up space, so I kinda control what I buy when it comes to them..... which I have about 25 fans, half being box and half oscillating fans. I store them in the attic, but rotate them around during the summer months, so I can enjoy and use all of them.
