I remember way back then, they used to pay out of pocket and went ahead and made videos showing how they did it, step by step. No difference here, just that as they grew in subscribers, companies provides them with things to show how to put them together, how to use them, or whatever. I am very happy for them.

Minus the segment where I was honest about how we got the system, the content would have been identical if we bought this unit ourselves. We've said it a lot before, but it must need repeating... You don't see us pushing fancy cereals or advertising products we don't use or need ourselves in our videos. Instead, we choose products that we need or feel would be of benefit to show our viewers. You're trying to hold us to a standard you would likely not maintain yourself if you were in our shoes. Where you may see us as selling out for a mini split for my workshop where we only got the item in exchange for the video, you probably have no idea the amount of money being offered to advertise, talk up, and otherwise sell random unrelated products to our viewers. One thing is certain, comments like yours make us wonder if we are doing the right thing by caring so much to make quality content vs. just taking the immediate paycheck.

@@sam-and-angela you care because you respect who you are, and will not give out anything less than the best you can do. Just keep on being yourselves. Don't change for anybody. Keep them coming, including the bloppers, they are funny and we also need laughter in our lives.

Good job, Sam! That looks like a fairly well made system. I was impressed that they included stainless steel hardware and brackets instead of the usual powder coated steel brackets and plated hardware. A word to the wise whenever you're working with stainless steel nuts and bolts ALWAYS use never- seize on the threads before putting on the nuts. Stainless steel is NOTORIOUS for galling . I've been building boats and marine equipment for over 45 years and this is a lesson that everyone who uses stainless steel hardware has found out the hard way!

As far as getting a free Mini Split heck yeah!! You could have easily left out the Schrader problem but you did not. So I enjoyed the install. I want to make a point to people out there because I just installed one a month ago and I am on my second one. Besides the bill dropping way low I cannot see anything negative about them. If you call an AC guy you will likely pay much more than what the kit costs for drawing a vacuum and gauges. Doing that is really easy once you have done it or watched 3 dozen videos of people doing it. In all likelihood most people know someone who probably has a pump. I highly recommend mini splits and this brand is a good one.

As of about 30 minutes ago, I got my Senville unit going! No schrader valve issue, and very minimal gas leakage when i took off the vacuum pump adapter (opened high pressure valve quarter turn for 5 seconds then shut it, before removing my adapter). Used the 4 cfm version of your pump (sorry! Had it already or id use your link). Anyways, good video and thinking quick on your feet!

You have to support the copper lines between the 2 buildings. That's soft copper, and it will sag over time, not to mention ice & snow or animals.

I just installed a 3 zone unit. I got a tosot one, i heard they are made by the same company. Head units look a bit different.. I spent a lot of time trying to find the difference and just opted for Tosot l. great install. Im happy to see more videos....

I believe Turbro is made by Midea and I know Tosot is made by Gree.

Nice install. This one seemed to go together easier that the houses' mini split. And you said it was cheaper. Kool I like saving dollars. Are the warranties the same?

I've done several self-installs on these things (I think 8 now?), and that does look like it was fairly easy. I'd probably have gone ahead and trimmed my linesets down to the correct length (we originally did the same, left them coiled) and flared the ends myself (I have one of those Super Stars brand eccentric ratcheting flare tools, they're fairly cheap, and work great). If you do remove extra length, you'd have to be careful of charge amounts (they're usually precharged for the linesets that are included's length), but I've not had any issues doing so thus-far. If you wanted to protect those linesets a bit more, you could always get some of the lineset cover kits, you can always put them on after installation. I'd also probably put a brace between the walls where you went over, and secure those linesets to that as well, but I'm the paranoid sort, and would fully expect some 50 pound bird to use it as a perch, lol. These things aren't nearly as difficult to install as many feel they are, and as you've shown, even down to actually doing the leak-test and releasing the freon. I've got an old Shinco branded one (the first one we ever installed, back in 2011) that finally gave up the ghost (Thanks Helene..), and may replace it with one of the Turbro single zone models now that I've seen that you're happy with the quality (Shinco completely left the US as far as mini splits go shortly after we bought ours, ZERO parts availability now, so no change of repair). I did notice you didn't really talk about the wifi modules these come with (I'm assuming yours does), I'd be curious if they're compatible with my home-automation setup like my others are (same brand as your house-installed split).

I'd also suggest getting some Nylog Blue thread sealant for the lineset connections, most HVAC guys I know use on these things fittings for that little bit of extra insurance.

You're much more of a mini split ologist than I am then! :) This is only my 2nd install. I don't know how to adjust coolant levels for line set lengths, so left it default. I also don't have a flare tool nor wanted to risk it further by cutting the lines. The vac pump, being my first time, was enough of a risk for me. I like your brace idea for the sky bridge! Even something like two shelf brackets and a treated 1x board going across would help. I would regret not doing so the day it got broke... okay... I've got to do it now! :) I was trying not to deep dive too far down the rabbit hole on their app and such. :) It shows integration with Google and Alexa, but that's not something I've setup yet. I do have it on wifi and use the app often to ramp temps up or down from in the house. It's also very handy to make sure or double check that I didn't leave the temp setting on something weird overnight.

Other How To ciedos on mini split units DO NOT have you pull Vac. Is this only for this brand??? Or do the others just not show a Vac pull. Thanks

It depends on the brand or manufacturer on if you have to or not. We installed a non-vac mini split system in our home a while back that later needed servicing. We were told by a HVAC tech at that time that all system should have vacs pulled on them regardless of what sellers say.

Great video !! Maybe I missed it but is this system 110 or 220 ? Also have you put a laser temp on it during cooling ? I'm curios at what the air temp would be coming out from a unit like this . P.S when did you hook both your shops together ?? I cant find any videos of you doing this or maybe its just my old eyes .

It is a 220v system, my thermometer read 53F from the vent when set to AC mode, and you're not old... there hasn't been a video on connecting the shops together. I filmed the process, but haven't gotten to finish it completely to share yet. It's been one of those things that was done enough to move on and then get forgotten. :-\

Why only pull vacuum on one line set? If I understand the workings each line set is separate or cutoff from the condenser until the valve is open. Seems a little short on vacuum time to boil off liquid. Not saying you are wrong, just curious how a vacuum was pulled on each.

The gas in the pipes leaking out is nitrogen, it is not freon They test the units for leaks by adding nitrogen gas at the factory. The freon is inside of the compressor only, and gets released into the pipes upon installation. They use nitrogen for testing because freon is harmful if released into the air.

This is a heat pump system -- both heating and air conditioning. :)

there is a site for DYI mini split installs.. there is a lot of discussion of making sure they are far enough AWAY from the wall for proper ventilation.. just sayin... lots of folks have failed schraders .. common pain

Angela gifted me with a new Milwaukee drill & impact driver set last year when I built my new workshop. :) I still have all the craftsman tools though!
