Chairman like simon loved exploiting a teenager to sign for under the average on long contracts and crap clauses, talking loyalty, yet kicking them out first opportunity. If you are signing for 4-5 years, you better have someone to fight for you to get the best deal financially. The thing is Simon is that you don't take in consideration at all that most players come from a poor economic background and aren't educated well at all as everyone knows footballers in schools aren't exactly smartest so in that sense a club could do him over soooo easily and then just say to him nope you aren't leaving or you have so and so clause in contract in whatever the dispute could be .Second thing you don't consider is the language barrier so how could a player that is 19 lets say and plays for Flamengo in Brazil and is really talented negotiate his own deal with an AC Milan lets say ? People who own clubs are multimilioners and billioners and they know how to scam people out of their money. Players can be bullied by owners into signing shitty contracts. Maybe not a 30 year old who has been paid to play football for the last 15 years but a 20 year old kid who just got his profesional contract certainly can. Football clubs make so much money from their players and they sometimes pay them peanuts. Normal people look at someone who earns 30k a week and call them greedy for wanting more but if they were in the same situation and knew they were getting underpaid based on the revenue they bring in they would also want more. Agents have to be tough to negotiate with and suck every last penny they can from the owner. It's only a certain amount of people that are as roughtless as that. Young footballers need agents. Also if you want to switch clubs you can't really do it on your own. You have to be concentrated on your football and let your agent do the negotioating. A player like haaland can't deal with 4-5 clubs discussing wages and contracts full with clauses for months and then be expected to train and play and travel around europe for big games every 3 days. Footballers need someone with contacts otherwise they will spend too much time contacting clubs and discussing deals when they should be concentrating on their football. Agents are needed in today's game. Not every player is a mbappe or a haaland where the clubs are falling over themselves trying to sign you. Most players have to sell themselves to other clubs so that they can get their move to a bigger club. It's almost impossible to do it on your own.
