I just got this grinder with the diamond like burrs. My first high end grinder. Coming from an old OXO grinder, this thing is a tank. Super heavy and stable. I’m making pour over coffee and so far it’s pretty amazing.

Looks great, can't wait for it. Are you offering any extra discounts on this one?
@portakeeper Жыл бұрын
I believe the Gen 1 is at the pre-order reduced price. The Gen 2 is already for sale! Solid price in my opinion

How is the heat on the grinder? Have you done multiple back to back shots? And what’s the consistency?

Isn't it better to put the beans in when the grinder is already on

Can do either.

Why don't you use transparent cup to see the shot?
@portakeeper Жыл бұрын
I just rarely use a clear cup except at my house.

These look painted instead of wrapped am I right? What also leads me to believe this is they only have a choice for white and black. The wrap was the main reason for me not wanting a df64 in the past.
@portakeeper Жыл бұрын
Yes painted. Black and white. That’s it. The wrap was amazing but so is this.

What type burrs come with this unit?
@portakeeper Жыл бұрын
@@bleezal can’t post pics here. There might be other videos on espresso outlet if I remember right. Look up the DF64 V5 burrs. Same burrs. The DF64V burrs are DLC coated and are an option for upgrade
@JoshuaPeters3036 Жыл бұрын
@@bleezal ya they are the same as the df64 v5 or the df64v but they are not dlc coated in the df64 gen 2.

Does the Gen 2 pull a better shot than the Gen 1?
@portakeeper Жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. I do like the new burrs in the gen 2. The same burrs can be found on the gen 1 V5. I really like the new burr style a lot.

I have a couple of questions I'd like to ask. First question, you mentioned that 12-15 is a good place to start for Espresso, my question is: Could you explain why that's a good place to start? Second Question I have is: What would be a good starting place to start for pour over coffee? I am brand new to the hobby and I am going from an Aeropress to a dedicated setup with this grinder and I am quite confused on how to get up and running out of the box. I am ordering my coffee machine this weekend and I am still stuck on whether to go for the Bambino plus or Gaggia Classic Evo Pro. I am leaning towards the Breville Bambino plus though as it would be easier for my mom to use who just uses pods but used to grind fresh coffee so it would be nice to get a better cup of coffee because we both drink like ok coffee but not really something delicious but I am a big time newbie and I am just now buying things like a scale and all that. I was under the impression I would just open it out of the box and pick a setting that would get a 9 bar pressure for 25-30 seconds but I don't really understand Fine or Coarse or dial in etc

The finer or smaller it grinds, the slower the water will be pushed through the grounds. The courser or bigger there’s more gaps for water to run through more easily. So text book is 18g of ground coffee produces 32-35g of espresso and the extraction time take 30 seconds to achieve that. So if very fine almost no water will come out. Too course it will come out very fast. Similar with drip coffee. I had someone mad because their new grinder took 15 minutes to make a cup of drip coffee. The grinder was set too fine so the water was barely getting through the coffee grounds. For drip usually a 16:1 ratio give or take for 300g of brewed coffee. Usually for something like V60 the draw down time will take about 3 minutes

@@portakeeper Ohh 😮 that makes sense! I been so confused on it honestly but that breakdown makes it very very simple. Thank you. I see. So if I go for a Breville Bambino Plus the basket is 15g so roughly 30 to 32grams out in 30 seconds is what I'd be looking for? Thank you for explaining Drip coffee as well because I'm thinking of getting the Clever coffee dripper with the filters and a 20z carafe because my mom would love to have that type of coffee again, she's maybe an Americano fan or the bigger drinks with lots of cream and sugar but she used to have that old pot in the office kind of coffee but if I can have a better made cup it will better for us both as we have breakfast together and share a coffee when she visits. Gotcha, so about 3 minutes draw time on something like that. That's perfect :D I usually wait about that long anyway when making my omelets :D so I can do that when it's working it's magic lol
@portakeeper Жыл бұрын
@@piplup10203854 yes that is correct. Now that is the ideal timing but not all coffee will taste best at that ratio and timing. Good starting point and then I usually adapt from there.

@@portakeeper Ah, gotcha! Thank you :D I will try to figure it out once it gets here. It's definitely gonna be a learning curve for me lol
