I spent four days in Turin in November, probably when this was uploaded. Beautiful city. A hidden gem.

@ There is plenty of accommodation in the area bounded by the two main railway stations, Porta Nuova and Porta Susa and the river. Both are about 10-15 mins pleasant walk from Centro. Your accommodation will probably be closer than that. You should get yourself a Turin pass from the tourist information centre on the north side of the piazza at Centro. It will get you access to museums and public transport. Worth having. The city is very clean and there seems to be none of the kind of obvious petty crime you find in places like Milan. Basically, it’s not a major tourist destination the way Rome or Florence are. The only hassles I had related to some rather aggressive beggars but they were not a major problem and if you walk quickly you will soon leave them behind. There are street markets in some of that major thoroughfares which may or may not be of interest to you. The major tourist attractions; Palazzo Reale, the Egizio, the Mole, the old FIAT factory at Lingotto are well documented by others. There are other places I didn’t get to see, like the first parliament building and a couple of other palazzi but I think it’s always better to leave wanting more, rather than to exhaust your options. Try to get to the original Cafe Bicerin (pron. BISH er in’) if you can. Otherwise you can get a Bicerin coffee in plenty of other places. Have fun.

Turin is so unlucky to be in Italy. A city with so many excellent baroque palaces it would be a top tourist destination in any other country.
