I normally don't comment like this but to the dude who said the HRE were the Byzantines... No... just no. The Byzantines were the remnants of the Eastern Roman Empire in Constantinople in modern day Turkey. They were a major power for the better part of 1000 years and, among many things, essentially held the Islamic invasion at bay from early Europe until they were overtaken by the Ottomans in the 15th century. The HRE was primarily in central Europe and was founded by Charlemagne, almost 500 years after the 'founding' of the Byzantine empire. They also never went further east than Bohemia or modern day Czechia.

Yup. The Holy "Roman" Empire was about as Roman as the Tsars were. You could say, and people do, that they were the successor to the Western Empire (more like conquerors/subjugators), but it's hard to actually see it that way. The HRE was more of a spiritual successor, and a way for the pope to try and revive the Western Empire. The Germanic people simply took over Italy and more or less assimilated as much as they could. They took on the mantle of the Western Empire after destroying it, basically. But yeah, I wouldn't describe Germans as being Roman. Rome had extremely strong ties to Greece throughout history though, which is another reason for seeing Byzantium as a true heir. Rome did have trade ties to the Germanic tribes, but I don't think it was nearly as extensive as to Greece iirc. The Byzantine Empire was (in my opinion) the *actual* successor to Rome, considering the events leading to the collapse of Rome, and the ethnicities/decendants of each region. Not the Germans, Russians, or Ottomans. The empire actually died with Constantine XI.

Sauron had Uruks too. Even in the movies, you seem them in Cirith Ungol when Frodo gets captured after getting stabbed my Shelob. I'm not sure if any of the forces in Pelennor were obviously Uruks, but it's almost certain that some of them were.

I feel like the Mongols are actually the strongest faction after watching this tournament. It’s a little disappointing to see their meta revolve so much around infantry armies building siege weapons, I’d like to see more of the steppe warfare fighting style with armies focused on horse archers and lancers supported with siege

The HRE falls in the early 19th century which is pretty funny to consider it existed that late, whereas the boys from Byzantium breath their last in the 15th century depending on exactly how dead you want them to be.

HRE existed after the fall of the Byzantine empire, but are definitely not the same thing as mentioned by a comment you read at approx. 1:02:00. I would recommend Constantinople by Isaac Asimov. The prolific Sci-fi writer has a series of history books that are packed with information, but not difficult to read. Very good stuff. The Byzantine empire is one of the most interesting civilizations.

Byzantines were Constantinople, near the "Levant" and a jumping off point to the Syria, Jerusalem area (Modern day Turkey). HRE is Germanic... Also, if you played AOE2 you will know that HRE is not "later than Byzantines". The HRE Emperor Barbarossa died while traveling to a Crusade when trying to cross a river... He would have passed through Constantinople if he had made it that far.

The more i think about it the more i am convinced that the Mongols are the only true S tier faction. They don't have to allocate villagers to get stone which they can use to make more units than you in the same timeframe. Combine that with the fact that they need less wood overall (they basically get 2000+ wood since they don't need houses and they can move their buildings) I dunno i feel like they will always have more shit than you at every stage of the game. the french can maybe compete cus they are bonkers op too but they are not as good as the Mongols in my mind.

Aoe4 did such a good job with historical accuracy. HRE are not the Byzantines - Byzantines were the Eastern Romans, HRE were the western romans who went Christian and their emperor was blessed by the Pope. Hence Holy Roman Empire.

HRE are not the Byzantines. The Byzantines are literally the Eastern Roman Empire which remained long after the Western Empire fell. The HRE is named after it but as some historians joke: it wasn't holy, it wasn't roman and it wasn't an empire. It's a conglomerate of a bunch of smaller European states, kind of like the Empire in warhammer.

You were given false information regarding uruks at the pelennor fields. Uruks are not Sarumans invention, though he did improve on the design. Sauron had uruks under his control, as uruks are really just a big breed of orc. However, no troops from isengard were present at the pelennor fields because saruman’s forces had been utterly destroyed.

Boring to see such disparity and overpowering of the French and Mongol, they both need some hard nerfs ASAP, trully. Altough I love the asymmetry and gameplay difference of the factions and know how hard it is to balance those elements out. I prefer a harder game to balance than a game where every faction is too similar in gameplay to the others.

Rushes seem a bit too strong at higher levels of play. Never see walls, or Imperial age. Not too surprising in this meta to see France and Mongolia so dominant with their early game strength and mobility.
