Wild turkeys are not native to Montana and were first introduced in the Judith Mountains of central Montana in 1954 by the Montana Department of Fish and Game. This introduction was part of national conservation efforts to save the species, and it was quite successful in Montana, where wild turkeys can now be found throughout much of the state.
