I am always in utter disbelief whenever Chef John announces the featured dish but I am quickly reassured when he says "thats right!" and I realize that this culinary adventure will indeed be taking place over the next several minutes.

I made this three or four times already and it is always absolutely delicious. First time I made this recipe, I used turkey but other times I used chicken and jalapeño sausage and prefer those meats over turkey better. Nevertheless, this is a must-try recipe! 👌🏼

Hi Chef. My husband made Tandoori Turkey this year for thanksgiving. We just gave it a new avatar ( look) with your recipe. I didn’t have to add Garam masala since the turkey had tandoori masala and I sautéed veggies like celery, mushrooms, onions, jalapeños and kale and mixed in with the turkey in this casserole. Thanks for the recipe. Itcc CDC was helpful

Outstanding recipe Chef John! I make turkey tetrazzini the day after thanksgiving every year. Straight out of Betty Crocker. Cream, mushrooms, sherry, pasta, Parmesan, turkey...a few other ingredients. The family looks forward to it every year.

I made this, it was quite good. Be sure to add plenty of cheese and go easy on the peppers and onions, they will overpower the rest of the food if you use too much bell pepper (from experience of course), if you are making this after Christmas.

I know this is an old recipe post, but made it last night and it was/is a hit. Kind of a mash up between pot-pie and mac-n-cheese :-] I added black pepper, a little feta cheese, and only used 6 oz of monterey jack, was still PLENTY cheesy! Talk about comfort food!

@MickLawification Yes, we can. Whole turkeys like the size we might buy for Thanksgiving and Christmas are hard to find but not impossible and there's almost always turkey breasts in the grocery store. Actually, this Thanksgiving (last month for me as I'm Canadian, not American) my family and I only roasted turkey breast because it's faster and only four of us were together for the holiday.

I think I would make it with Turkey gravy and then add a few egg yokes for extra richness . great looking meal.
@kylenepratt3253 жыл бұрын
This recipe is extremely versatile, for instance, I didn't want a pepper flavor with mine, so I did sauteed broccoli. I don't like cream of mushroom, so I used cream of onion. The one absolute thing you should not change or omit is the garam masala. The flavor it brings elevates this 1970's casserole to, "2nd helping please!"

We Chinese family like pure all veggie food, you can basically pour the dry flour in, add a very little bit veggie oil, only about a table spoon, then, add pour flour to fry, (we have our medium flexiable original flour--not sure how they make them , but taste better than here, not know why) and then, after fry smell look like good, almost brown or golden color, ready to serve, and add a little bit salt or black pepper. You can save it as package when travel too, mix with warm water. Very simple

@OfficialJerla I think I'm wrong, but he could be Canadian (we have Thanksgiving in October). It's more likely he cooked a turkey recently just because he can. I mean, you *can* buy and roast turkey year round.

@pixiedust2160 You could use the same recipe with ham, beef, chicken, or no meat at all. Casseroles are easy recipes where you can add anything in your fridge and somehow they still come out tasting awesome.

Looks yummy and fairly cheap to make although my friend marys recipe for white sauce differs from yours. She just uses milk, flour, butter, garlic powder, black pepper, and onions... But yours sounds good. Garam masala is like curry so I'm sure I'll like it

@foodwishes I'm not talking about cooked flour, because even I use flour when I make gorgonzola sauce and pasta, to thicken the sauce. I'm talking about burned flour. When you put it directly in the pan and gets dark/brown, without any butter or liquid, just onion.Thats when its not good for health. I wasn't talking directly about your cooking or this video, just in general. I respect you as a chef and I would never doubt your cooking technique.

@foodwishes John, I am talking about burned flour, when you put the flour directly in the pan, with onion. Not like in your case, when you had butter, when butter and flour mixes. Maybe I didn't expressed myself right.
