In this video, I show how I used the extra turkey parts that didn't make it onto the serving platter to make some homemade turkey noodle soup.
I started by taking all of the turkey scraps and placing them into a large pot along with some water and crushed garlic. After boiling this for several hours, I added all of the seasoning, spices, and vegetables to create a soup.
This is one of the tastiest and healthiest soups you can make since you are creating a bone broth. Excellent for eating on those cold winter days.
Recipe:
Note: It's best to do this over a two-day period. One day to process the turkey parts, and another day to make the soup.
Add all turkey scraps into a large kettle. Top off with water, cover, and bring to a boil. Once boiling, add about 1.5 tablespoons crushed garlic. Reduce the heat to create a low simmer. Replace cover and allow to cook for at least two hours. However, it's best to allow the mixture to cook for 4-6 hours.
After boiling, strain the mixture with a colander with a large bowl underneath to catch the broth. Allow to cool and then separate the bones, skin, fatty pieces, and other undesirable items from the solids parts. Set the meat aside.
Add 4 cups of the broth into a crock pot along with at least 1lb of the turkey meat. Add more if desired.
Store the remaining broth and meat in the freezer for later.
Add the following items into the crock pot:
4 cups water
2 large carrots (diced)
2 stalks celery (diced)
1 large onion (diced)
1 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp paprika
1 tsp thyme
1 tsp parsley
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp rosemary
3 chicken bullion cubes (or 2 tbls Better than Bullion)
Cook on high for 5-6 hours.
During the last hour, taste to see if additional seasoning is needed.
Add 8 ounces of your favorite noodles and cook for the last hour.
Enjoy!
