Been going to Turkey for years.Always take Sterling and exchange at banks,always better rate than what rate you get at home.👍👍

If you use euro or sterling they always round it up further than if you use the Turkish Lira. Thats why they prefer the other currencies as they get a better exchange rate!! ✌️

I've noticed on most Turkish restaurant bills the total cost is often shown in three currencies TL , Euros, and Sterling, now if you do your own conversion calculation paying the said bill in TL is always cheaper ie taking the sterling charge and convert to TL it comes to less, this is not an advert but I always pay using the Revolut card which automatically converts the payment to the local currency the rate at the moment is over 44 TL to the pound

Cash is king Kevin obviously the tax sounds like a bit of a Nelson Riddle.Sterling or Euros as they can be used all over.Lire maybe a bit difficult in other countries.Remember always in currencies buy high sell low

Hi Kevin. Regarding what currency to use in Turkey. Martin Lewis always says on his show when spending overses always pay in the local currency . That way you always get the best deal.

Not been for years but found that most of the ATMs did £, €, and TL. I used to draw in £s so no currency fees then take them to the exchange shop for TLs. Seem to remember at the time it was around 2.5TL to the £ but got around 3.00 in the exchange shop.

Alot of clothes shops etc love pound sterling as they hold on to it till winter when local rates rise dramatically then they bank it and exchange for an even higher lira rate

Best way is a mix of Euros and good old pounds then you can negotiate a deal for you Kevin but steer of Lira's they sink in value like the Titanic

Take a small amount of local currency with you. Go to the PTT (Post Office in Turkey) atm or other fee free atm and take money out that way as you will have the best Mastercard rate at that time. The tax on the bill is a bit Hmmm ?.
@CabOnTarget11 күн бұрын
This is good advice. PTT (post office turkey) is best. And the fee paying ATMs the max you can take out is relatively small 5000 tl which is only about £112. And there is a near £5 fee for each ATM transaction on fee paying ATMs.

Is it a front loaded tip! Bob

Try and get a Revolut card sponsorship. Hope you are well.

BTW NEVER accept the ATM's offer of currency conversion. Always press NO. This is just a scam. If you press yes there is a fee. There is no benefit for pressing yes thats why its a scam.
