I love the Turkish people. I'm British and I've visited the country a few times and each time was a different part. Wherever I went the Turkish people were amazing. I admire the way they care so much about their families and that when their parents grow old, the grown up children then support their elderly family members. I'd love to see some of that in the UK. I've travelled with my young daughter and she was amazed by how friendly everyone was.

I see many nationalities making comments about the cooking here. Would you volunteer to tell us what food, or crop, if any, your nation gifted to the world? It is easy to make smug comments. The fact is, only a few countries gave the world all its crops, no matter how you all ended up cooking it. The US has a great agriculture, and a lot of food. But I have been scratching my head to find one crop it introduced to the world. Do not say cranberry. Thank the Turks for some of the good nuts. Almonds any body? Poor nations domesticated some 70 crops, from wheat, barley sorghum, oats and rice, to peas, beans, and lentils, from coffee to cacao, from mango, avocado, papaya and melons, to citrus and stone fruits, a wealth of spices and herbs, and more. Just so you keep things in perspective.
