Sir why is the present simple tense of "know" "bilir"? Like "He knows everything" to turkish is "O herşeyi bilir". Why not biler? Bil has one syllable so why doesn't it end in er?

sir, in the last lesson you said we add mek or mak to make the infinitive verb form. So, since "ye" means "eat", "ye(mek)" should mean "to eat" instead of food, isn't it?
@LearnTurkishwithGokberk3 жыл бұрын
Yes, this is a different word. 'yemek' means 'to eat' as a verb and 'food' as a noun. There are some words like this in Turkish :D
@LearnTurkishwithGokberk3 жыл бұрын
You need to use the verb "yemek" with an object. So we say "yemek yemek" meaning "to eat food" ;)

@LearnTurkishwithGokberk4 жыл бұрын
It is a general statement sentence. Unlike in English, we don't use the plural suffix unless we specifically show that it is more than one. Turkish doesn't use the plural suffix -ler/-lar unless that information is intended by the speaker.
Merhaba gökberk bey , Please briefly tell me that what is the difference between one syllable Verbs and multi syllable verbs...😊❤
@ulascelikbas4823 Жыл бұрын
There is no difference between one syllable verbs and multi syllable verbs. The difference is with the one syllable verbs and multi syllable that end with a CONSONANT. While the one syllable verbs that end with a consonant follow the -ar -er vowel harmony rule, the multi syllable ones follow -ır -ir -ur -ür vowel harmony rule.

can you please tell me that how the verb *Gitmek* is conjugated into Gidiyorum ?
@LearnTurkishwithGokberk4 жыл бұрын
Because of Consonant Assimilation. The letter "T" in Git = Go is changed to "D". The Present Continuous Tense in Turkish is - vowel + yor (for the correct vowel, you need to understand Vowel Harmony). Please first review Vowel Harmony and Consonant Assimilation topics. Then later watch the video on Present Continuous. You will understand it in no time ;)

Merhaba, how can I distinguish the aorist tense from the present progressive because they both are used for describing habits?
@LearnTurkishwithGokberk4 жыл бұрын
Merhaba! We don't use the present progressive for talking about habits. We generally use it for actions happening at the moment (like in English). The Aorist Tense is similar to the English Present Simple tense. There are some phrases made in the Present Progressive but you won't see that many.

Hello teacher, I was wondering why we say "bakarım" (you use an "a" to form the present simple) but you also say "alırım" (using "ı" to form it). Both are one syllable verbs, so I'm confused.
@tixonov3122 ай бұрын
There are exceptions among one syllable verbs ending in a consonant that follow ir/ır/ur/ür rule, like these 16 verbs: bil-, gel-, öl-, al-, kal-, bul-, ol-; ver-, gör-, var-, dur-, vur-; den- (passive of de-), yen- (passive of ye-), kon- (reflexive of koy-), san-.

Selam oğrencim! Iyim. Nasilsin? Ben videolarin cok sevim. Just one question. "Sevmem" and "Sevmeyim" mean the same, right?
@LearnTurkishwithGokberk2 жыл бұрын
Merhaba Rohab! Teşekkür ederim. "Sevmem" is the verb "sev" (like/love) conjugated in the "Aorist Tense". It is a negative statement, saying "I don't like" (a general fact). The word "sevmeyim" is incorrect, it should be "sevmeyeyim" meaning "let me not like it". It "-eyim" suffix is the Optative Suffix. It is used for "Let's ..." type sentences. For example "Yemek yapayım" meaning "I'm gonna do the cooking / Let me do the cooking". Another example "Okula gidelim!" meaning "Let's go to school". I have a detailed lesson on "Optatives" at the premium "Intermediate Turkish" course on my website, if you're interested ;)

Sir what is the difference between present continuous tense and present simple tense . For ex ' i am learning Turkish ' it is present continuous or present simple tense. Or for ex :-' he learns Turkish ' it is present simple tense?
@medibear4059 Жыл бұрын
It is present continous. Continous is any verb ending in "ing" . For example: I am doing. I am playing. I am cooking. She is singing.
@medibear4059 Жыл бұрын
He learns turkish = present simple. There is no "ing" . Present continous would be = he is learning turkish

Merhaba hocam! Öğretmenler gününüz kutlu olsun! I would like to ask one question, verbs like "merak etmek" , "yanlış yapmak" , etc. The verbs that are two words, how am I supposed to use the aorist tense. Is it "merak eterim" or "merak etirim" ? Teşekkürler.
@LearnTurkishwithGokberk4 жыл бұрын
Merhaba Fiza, in Turkey teachers day is 24 November, but thank you anyway :) You change the second verb. So it would be "etmek" and "yapmak" for those two examples. Just remember that "Merak" and "Yanlış" are not verbs by themselves but nouns. The root for "etmek" is "et" so we add the Tense Suffix here. This verb is also effected by Consonant Assimilation so the "T" will turn into a "D". Don't forget the Vowel Harmony. The correct conjugation will be "ED+ER+İM". "Merak ederim" = "I wonder about ..." Let me know if there is anything else I can help with ;)
