Haydarpaşa wasn't "closed" per se. It's under renovation following a big fire that destroyed most of it's roof. They also discovered a massive archeological site under the platforms during renovation, so that delays it's opening further. The building itself is practically fully renovated right now, and most of the work is focused on figuring out how to reconnect the tracks and build the platforms without damaging the archeological site. It's planned to be opened again in a couple years.

Your comment about stations aren't used efficiently is absolutely true. There are only around 18 YHT services from İstanbul to Ankara and Konya together, that means 18 coming back, in total 36 times trains use the 3rd line in the Anatolian side of İstanbul. There is only one night train between İstanbul and Ankara.

Yes, in terms of quantity of trains, but also boarding procedures could be much faster because they imitate airports instead of using all the stairs and access they have

True, true. The following has to happen in order to improve frequency and service quality: 1. Haydarpasa has to reopen asap. There is currently no terminus station with adequate maintenance facilities, and siding on the Asian side of Istanbul. 2. TCDD has to order more high speed trains, they have currently only 29 sets (12 CAF's + 17 Velaro's), which is not sufficient. 1 Siemens set was destroyed at the Ankara train accident. 3. There are still 2 major construction sites between Istanbul and Eskisehir that force YHT's to switch to conventional tracks... 4. Most importantly, they need to build a YHT only double track tunnel between Gebze and Haydarpasa to increase capacity and speed, on this portion of the line. Having only one track for intercity trains is very dangerous, and simply not enough infrastructure to offer more frequent service.

I absolutely agree with your thoughts. The construction zone in Haydarpaşa is progressing, but it will still be some years until they finish it.

Existing station space is also not used efficiently, unfortunately: Eskişehir station features a historic main hall, which is just next to the new platforms constructed for mainline and YHT services. Unfortunately, that building can't even be entered when boarding a train service. Instead, passengers need to wait in the underground rail underpass or the platforms themselves (once they're opened close to departure times). TCDD operations need a customer service focus urgently.

@@felixonrailsthe construction at Haydarpaşa could be finished in a few months but no one wants it as it will not bring any profit whereas BOT constructions are finished at lightning speed.

You mentioned many things while travelling in the train, how actually you recognised those things ( tunnel,old bridge).? By using Google map or from memory.? I mean you are not maybe from turkiye...!

Although I'm not from Türkiye I know the country pretty well, I lived for one year in Istanbul and I read a lot about its history. And since I travel from time to time between Istanbul, Konya and Ankara, I know those places now very well 😊 but for sure, Google Maps helps, or for railway infrastructure, openrailwaymaps. There is also a good app "Railmap" for iOS that can help for orientation.

I am a Turkish living in the States. My sister buys the ticket for me. Partly, because not all the dates would be available. You need to buy a few days in advance, when they open up the days. Also, credit card is another issue. Usually, when you make a purchase, they send you a code, which means you need a Turkish carrier. Not very smooth usually.

Heres something you may find interesting. :) The name of my country has nothing to do with the interesting and delicious bird ''turkey'', well let me explain. :) Name of my country has always been Turkiye, that is Turk-iye, where the -iye suffix means ''land of/belonging to''... ...just like the Latin suffix -ia in such countries as Latv-ia, Roman-ia, Eston-ia, Austr-ia, Austral-ia etc etc. Another example; decades ago Czechoslovakia Republic changed it's name to Czech Republic and a few years ago changed that to Czechia (that is Czech-ia). Anyways, most likely the Latin -ia suffix was derived from the Turkish version -iye, as Turkish is much much older. Because in old times people of different languages could only pronounce it as their languages allowed them, we got various differences in spelling like Turchia (in Italian), Turquie (in French) and Turkey (in English) all trying to resemble the pronounciation of ''Turk-ia'' thus Turkiye. Mind you this was way BEFORE the animal we currently know as 'turkey'' was found by the europeans when they explored the north americas.... ...they came across the bird and thought it was a specie of the fowl/chicken they had been buying from the country of Turkiye at the time, so they named the bird ''Turkey Fowl'' meaning ''Turkish Chicken''..... ....just like how a dog breed is known as German Shepherd (because it's from Germany), Rhodesian Ridgeback (because it's from Rhodesia), American Bulldog, British Terrier, Greek Harehound etc etc. In time you don't get to call the Greek Harehound as simply as ''Greek''; or you don't call the British Terrier as ''British''; or the German Shepherd as ''German'', but in time the Turkish Fowl started to be called just ''turkey'', and has been going on for hundreds of years. Now in 2023, this is causing confusion, especially when we have people across the world unable to point to their OWN country on the atlas, this ''confusion over the naming'' needed to be corrected. So my country decided to rectify this confusion that has been going on for so long and corrected the name in other languages to Türkiye, which it always was, we basically didn't change the name of our country, we changed the mistake made in the English language. : ) So, there's some tid bit information for you to have a great day, if you read upto this point you have a great night too, ohh just have a wonderfull life. : ) Best wishes. ;)

@KenanTurkiye
@KenanTurkiye Жыл бұрын
Mutlu kal. ;)
