I always thought these cats were turkish angoras, the vans having shorter hair and sometimes colored areas on their heads and faces. Mine is identical to the "beauty queen" in the video. She'll always be an Turkish Angora to me, not a Turkish Van. Lovely country, lovely people, lovely cats. They're truly a national treasure.

I adopted a van cat from a shelter in Wisconsin. My boi only costed $40. He was a stray found by a dumpster behind a grocery store. He's all white with one blue eye and one yellow/orange eye. He's such a good boy!

I also visited Lake Van and Akdhamar island - a real pilgrimage for me and recommend for any Van cat lover. Thanks to the University programme the Vankedisi is no longer endangered species. you need to come to Turkey and go to Van city. You can only find these cats there but it maybe difficult to find even if you find they maybe expensive. In the cat center different colored eyes cats are not on sale. only same colored eyes are on sale. but in the city you can find. I am not the one to contact. If you ever come to Turkey just let me know maybe I can help you. But after this pandemic (covid19).

If both eyes of Van cats are blue they are most likely deaf.

No the ones that are deaf is angora cat. Van and Angora cats looks very alike, but angora cats is being deaf when they had both blue eyes. That deaf thing is not for Van, its for Angora.

We had a Turkish Van cat. Both eyes blue and yes she was deaf. It was not a problem. We loved our cat, too bad she died at age 18. We still miss her to this day. The most enjoyable cat that we ever had. Her other sentences were extremely good. That she was deaf never bothered us...

Because van cats with different eyes are very rare and they were about to go extinct until recently, but they are now under protection by the state. In short, this is the reason of why they don't sell them.

I think you can bring cats out of our country. But I am not sure about these different colored eyes cats. As long as you can own one I still think that you can take them out because they are your own property. But these different colored eyes cats are difficult to find. You need to come to Van city and check there carefully and spend some good money. Maybe 200-300 USD per cat.
