About the ignorance and stereotypes: I’ve been once sitting in the sauna with an English guy and an Iranian. Englishman asked Iranian guy if they speak “some sort of Arabic” (sic!) in Iran. The bellend had no idea that Farsi in an Indo-European language and is closer to English, than to Arabic.

Actually, I'm from Aydın city but even I never seen a camel in my whole life. And I want to say that so many people dont know this but there are more vegetable meal than meat dish in Turkish cuisine. soo turkish cuisine is a heaven for vegan and vegeterrians. Our cuisine is absolutely so unique and huge. But so many people thinks we eat meat more than vegetables. this is totally wrong especially in hot regions like agean and mediterrian coasts.

I agree 100% with you! I loooove the “zeytinyağlı” dishes, they are super healthy, and the variety they have is unbelievable! I also have in mind doing more videos about it, the unknown Turkish dishes specially the ones without meat, but I need restaurants to open first to dine in 😅 Thanks for your comment and sharing your thoughts with us! ❤️🇹🇷

@hoodbridgeShakeproto , Turkish population is 85 million , the biggest ethnic in Turkey is Turks and Turkish citizen with Arap ethnicity in Turkey is maybe utmost 5 million but as you know also 5 million Syrian refugee came from Syria , some of them became Turkish citizen , we hope Syrian refugees go back to their countries as soon as possible , we have no problem with Turkish citizens with Arap ethnicity , all ethnics in Turkey , we all mixed with each other because we have been living together for such a long time and all ethnic groups in Turkey has got equal rights in laws and Turkish constitution , we all represent Turkish people.

So funny when you mentioned turkish mothers wearing a hijaab while mostly their daughters don't wear one which is very common indeed. I'm Turkish and my mother wears hijaab while I don't wear one, she knows that I don't like wearing one so she respects that. ❤☺

Right!? I have met sooo many families in the cities I’ve lived where mostly the moms wear it but not the daughters, also I’ve worked in my schools in Turkey and when we have meeting with parents and I get to met them face to face, is when I realized that too. I think that’s a beautiful thing that most respect their daughters’ decisions, while many think is the opposite, that’s why I wanted to bring it up in this video. Thanks for confirming this specially you being Turkish 🙏🎉🙌🇹🇷🇹🇷

@Ciara Martin it seems you have never traveled in Turkey at all. Exactly what you are talking about are the stereotypes we are trying to get rid of. I would like to invite you to travel in Turkey specially in the Mediterranean and Aegean regions, then you’ll see what you are claiming is totally false and Turkish people there look a lot to Europeans. Believe it or not, I have met so many Turkish who are blond or have fair skin, Turkish people is one of the most mixed people in the world, when walking in the streets, you can see people of all skin tones not just one as you claim, and if you don’t believe it, go read some books about it and illustrate yourself. You’re brainwashed by the western media and btw, I’m a westerner 😌. And how you refer to me as “this one in the video…” says a lot about you. You have lack of respect and don’t know how to express properly. FYI, I’m not even Turkish and as I mentioned before, I’n from a western country 😉. For one or two “Turks” that perhaps you’ve met and that according to you are “dark” doesn’t mean that all Turkish are like that.

Cool video to make guys! Most people told us to be very careful in Turkey when they heard we were going (non of these people had even been to Turkey before lol). I think some of the events in 2016 definitely put some people off travelling to Turkey which is sad because we found it incredibly safe! The airports might be the safest in the world, so many check points and not being able to enter the terminal without a flight booking. Lol I liked the fez/ ice cream example, I got quite a shock when I first ordered ice cream in Istanbul! 😂😂

I've found most people are either stupid or ignorant on most things. Most of my feller Americans think Turks are not White. Actually Turkish is a language and nationality, not a race or color. Most Turks I've ever seen are obviously White. Many are also Brown (aka Mixed). A handful are Black. Being Muslim is a matter of religious belief and has nothing to do with race. Being Muslim doesn't mean being non-White. I'm a White man, but, if I converted to Islam, would it magically alter my race? Of course not! The Ottoman Turks were a mixed group of people, many of whom were White. The vast majority of Anatolians conquered by the Turks were White. Result, Turkey is a majority White country regardless of religion, language, or culture. Stereotypes do originate from some basic truths, but, over time get more blown out of proportion to one degree or another and should never be used for accurate descriptions of anything.

Right!? I keep saying that and they are so surprised because mostly everybody think is only kebabs and meat 😅 Türkiye has a vast variety of vegetarian-friendly options specially with their “zeytin yağlı meals” and mezes which I looooove! Also many think that Turkish foods is only what they see on videos (kebab, pide, lahmacun, baklava, doner) and often say it is all the same BUT if they just visited other areas of this country, they would realize how many dishes they never heard of we have. I love Turkish cuisine! ❤️❤️❤️

You did well to dispel myths and stories to "other" middle east people. Anyway it wouldn't make turkey less interesting had some of the those stereotypes been true -- if turkey had only kebab as main dish, it would still be interesting. The Turkish have so many interesting and diverse kebab dishes, so you'd be laughed at if you think the kebabs we see in the uk, USA or europe are representative of the Turkey's kebab dishes. Besides, turkish gastronomy is rich in side dishes (salads, appetizers, desserts etc.).

Hello, I am Turkish. For some reason, it is said that Turks are barbarians in the media of many countries. As a Turk, I should not praise my own country too much(and there is a proverb, no one says that my yogurt is not sour, so no one would say bad to what they own or have) Turkey's culture is rich yes As for the desert, let alone the desert, I didn't even see a camel. Our problem is the economy, and then the Cyprus and Aegean Islands problem with the Greeks, the economy, and now there is a political crisis.

Hi Tomer, not sure if you already visited Turkey but I think you should say that you are from Israel, no need to pretend otherwise. Unfortunately the media portrays us like we all hate Israelis/Jewish but in reality this is not true. Before I travel to Israel, I had similar prejudices towards Israel and after my trip, all my prejudices has been destroyed. Generally speaking, the majority of average people in Israel was kind, friendly and believe me it is the same in Turkey. Ofcourse there are some exceptions from both sides but thats the outcome of politicians and toxic media.

Thank you for this wisdom. Well done in this good work. How wicked it is to believe in stereotypes! How ignorant we all are! God bless you for this good work amen. [Not too happy about the poor wrestling camels - likewise similar entertainments in other places - stallions, bulls, etc etc - hurry on the day when we don’t enjoy using animals for this pleasure]

I'm a Turkish citizen myself, and I cannot stand foreign people (mostly Western people) saying Turks are Asian. Just because 97% of Turkey is geographically in Asia doesn't mean we're all Asians. Turkey is incredibly diverse. Some of us are more European, some are more Asian, but we're all Eurasian, because y'know Ottoman was gigantic, and was at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and Africa. My DNA result says I'm 98.2% European; 68.7% South European, 22.4% East European, 4.7% Ashkenazi, 2.4% North & West European. I only have 1.8% West Asian. Some Turkish people may have predominantly Asian gens, and some may not. Why can't people just admit that Turkey is an intercontinential country, with its Eurasian folk? It's annoying and mad disrespectful to claim otherwise.

I don’t know you background or anythig like that, to be honest is hard to answer that question. Also Turkey has tons and tons of private schools, literally everywhere 😅 I don’t k ow if you can do a student exchange program, I’m not sure about this topic but even maybe you could ask your current school in your country of they have an exchange program in Turkey and they can help you with options.

Now I watched you video! And my advice to you is don't worry what others think of you, worry how your government treats you, the freedom of expression, and how your country is run by your government. Freedom of ideas, freedom of doing what you like to do, are very important. What other countries think of Turkey is not important. I'm a Balkan immigrant who lives in NY City and Americans do not think locally, when it comes to Europe. Most think of Turkey in terms of business, how much they make, what are their standards of living, and for the one who can afford to travel they come and visit. Europeans are different I guess. But the prejudice and views about a certain country change, as countries industrializes and embraces the modern living. Since I follow Turkey I think Turkey is in the right path to became an important European industrial country.
