Back in Soviet days when I was serving in Soviet military, I met Greeks from several parts of northern Caucasus. I was shocked to witness how they were speaking Turkish among themselves. I knew northern Caucasus was home to ethnic Greeks but didn’t know Turkish was their primary language at home. Being a native of Azerbaijan, I could easily communicate with them. Since I was serving on the other side of Black Sea, in Russian resort town of Anapa, it was very easy to listen to Turkish radios. That was something also enjoyed by Greek soldiers. So, we found something in common. It was really interesting experience that I will never forget.

Those are Greeks originally from Tsalka, Georgia. They migrated to northern Caucasus mostly in the early 1990s. The region of Northern Caucasus prior to that had mostly Greek speaking Greeks who left for Greece. They migrated to Tsalka in 1829-1831 from Erzurum and Kars of Ottoman Empire. They originate from Turkish speaking Greeks and Armenians of the region who were practicing Christianity secretly and followed the Russian troops to Russian Empire after the 1828-1829 Russo-Ottoman war. In the same area Greek speaking Greeks from the regions of Trabzon and Gümüshane moved after 1856. They mostly intermarried with the Eastern Anatolian Greeks but 4 villages stayed fully Greek speaking, not counting the many Greek speaking villages of near-by regions.

The origin of the Gagauzes is obscure. 21 different theories exist about their origin. The fact that their confession is Eastern Orthodox Christianity may suggest that their ancestors already lived in the Balkans prior to the Ottoman conquest in the late 14th century. In population comparisons, the Gagauzes were found to be more closely related genetically to neighboring southeastern European groups than to linguistically related Anatolian populations, as in the video mentioned. More considerable distinctions in the distribution of Y chromosome components appeared between the Gagauzes and other Turkic peoples. After genetic comparison between the populations of the Balkans, Anatolia, and Central Asia, the results showed that the Gagauz are part of the Balkan genetic group.

I am impressed how well you summarised the story of Turkic people in only 11:44 minutes … I was born Turkish of two “muhacir” families of the Balkans (my mother’s family came from Sofia/Bulgaria and my father’s family from the present Bitola in North Macedonia)… I was told that we went to the Balkans from Karaman in Anatolia … The thing is that we don’t look at all like Anatolians or Central Asians … We look more like people of the Balkans … So, you could understand why I am so interested in Turkic populations’ movements … Thank you for this amazing video …

If your family came from Balkans you could literally not have an ounce of Turkish or Turkic blood in you. Your family could well have never spoken any Turkish either. If they had converted to Islam at any point by the WWI settlement if you were Moslem in Balkans you were a Turk and expelled to Turkey.

If you want to be disgraced with your own money, I say to you, don't stop. Are you asking why? because DNA test results do not reflect the truth! Nobody knows what it means to be racial. In order to become a race, it is necessary to be descended from the first owner of Y DNA, which does not receive any genes from anyone! the rest are just tribes belonging to races. No one knows the difference between race and tribe! They claim that there are dozens of races as a result of DNA tests. Do you think there are dozens of races in this world that do not take genes from anyone and are the first and only owners of Y DNA? This is nothing but a lie! moreover, they are telling this lie while claiming that all humanity has spread to the world from Africa! The Turk race has a genetically proven history of 40 thousand years today. Geneticist Dr. A large-scale study was conducted by Spencer Wells, initiated in 2005. and the result I am talking about is the information obtained as a result of that research. There are no English subtitles, but search for this sentence on the youtube search line and watch the short episode of the National Geographic documentary and see for yourself who is actually of Turk origin. "Ön Türklerin Genetik Kökenleri ve Akrabaları". and we bear the name of the person named Turk from which we are descended. How can Arabs and Kurds be the ancestors of that person named Turk??? Besides, it has already been proven genetically, archaeologically and linguistically that the Kurds are of Turk origin, but Arabs are not of Turk origin! Do you realize how easy it is to fool you? We don't have the African gene in our DNA! we are an Asian race! Do you know the Y DNA of the Turk race? Do you know the Y DNA of Africans? Let's say you have received the DNA result. How will you know if you are of Turk origin??? Human DNA consists of 46 chromosomes. 2 of them are racial chromosomes. the remaining 44 chromosomes are related to physical characteristics. They also perform DNA tests by examining these 44 chromosomes. the result of this shows with whom your ancestors married before. It doesn't show which racial gene you carry!!! If each lived 100 years, 40 thousand years would be 400 generations. If I don't know who I am, do I care who my ancestors married? In my previous comment, I said that the phenotypes of people, that is, their appearance, are determined by the conditions of the geographies in which they lived, and that this subject falls under the category of biology, not genetics. I also told you that the explanation would be too long, instead that you would have to ask to find out. but instead of asking, you say you want to have a DNA test. okay, get a DNA test done. Now I am giving the genetic characteristics of the Turk race. Let's see if the DNA test you will have will be one of them, compare! Turk race Y DNA R(Asia). main stem genes R1a - R1b. common haplo group genes N - M. skin color white. biological - phenotype 2. color scarlet. skull structure, brachycephalic.

''The differences we observe between our samples of Cappadocian Greeks and Cappadocian Turks allows us to gain some insights into the genetic profile of the incoming Oghuz Turks: From the observation that Anatolia_Neolithic related components (such as West_Med and East_Med) show significant declines, while the West_Asian component doesn't, we can deduce that this component was one of the major components that the Seljuk era Oghuz brought with them. The increase that we can see in the Baltic component is not surprising, given that modern Central Asians have greater amounts of Baltic admixture than West Asians. The fact that the proportions of the West Asian component barely changed, while at the same time the South_Asian component (a proxy for Iran_N related ancestry) increased, indicates that we should focus on the region south of the Aral Sea.''

I am astounded by the high similarity between Turkic languages despite their geographical distances. As far as I know, some Turkic languages like Uzbek and Tatar are mutually intelligible with Turkish to some level. I once heard a Turk saying he could understand the Wikipedia articles in Uzbek language. Azerbaijani is needless to say, its speakers can communicate with Turks with no barriers. The areas where these languages are spoken (Anatolia and Central Asia) are much further apart than the distances between multiple European countries with mutually unintelligible languages, all of which belong to the same Indo-European family. Great video as always.

Maybe its because turkic people are nomads and stick more together, lived in yurts and close contact? Im not sure. Steppes people usually have much more contact than city living people and mountain people since nomads are mobile. Thats why turkic langagues are so close.

I would wholeheartely agree with this statement. Depsite being so far distances apart from each other, the Turkic language always maintained this core similarity which each other. I cant explain it correctly because i am hardly a linguist and know the right terminology, but whenever you i see any Turkic language written down i can understand mostly of it. If you compare this to the Indo-European language family for example, forget about it.

Verbs in Turkic languages are very hard to influence. Turkish language has huge amount of borrowed vocabulary from Persian and Arabic contrary to central Asians but 90% of verbs are only altered by natural evolution. Slight hint of similarity can resolve how a sentence is structured. Although I am pretty sure Turkish and Persian can understand more than Turkish and Kazakh because of the shared vocabulary.
@lockeromel9632
@lockeromel9632 6 жыл бұрын
A lot of the modern Turkish language was reformed with the populist nationalist movement at the turn of the century to replace many perso-arabic influenced words with ancient tengri words. Turks of modern Turkey have little Turkic genetic influence, Iran/Iranians arguable have a lot more due to their lands being subjugated/vassalised to the Khanates of Mongolia like the Illkhanate and the Golden Horde, this is most seen in Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, ancient regions in which ancient peoples like the Saramatians, Scythians and Sogdians would have inhabited, however the genetic composition of these regions, as well as the overall appearance is very heavily central Asian dominated. This influence is extremely negligible in the middle east and even in the Caucas/Crimea areas which were subject to many Turkic influenced dynasties.

Exceptionally irritating propaganda for me as a Bulgarian. The original Bulgarians were indo-european, according to anthropological data from exhumed corpses. Plus, the proto-bulgarian tongue had nothing to do with turkic.

As what i learned from my history classes in Turkey, the first grup was a turkic group but then slavs came and they became dominant. So i think bulgarians doesn't have a turkic ancestry if so it must be so low that we would ignore it. Even when you think of nowadays turkish people doesn't have a lot of central asian ancestry, it mostly around %10-15 with high percantages of western Asia and europian ancestry.
@TheTeodorsoldierabvb
@TheTeodorsoldierabvb 4 жыл бұрын
@@silas9076 The origin of the proto-bulgarians has been discussed a lot, but some linguistic features (such as names), the lack of turkic religious belief, and of course the excavation of graves point toward indo-european (iranian) ancestry, not turkic. What you are reading is either old studies - which do get into school books - or more likely turkish nationalist propaganda. Otherwise I agree that modern turks (Turkey tyrks) have very low turkic gene material.

The proto - bulgarians were also mixed irano-mongolians as the most of the central asians but luckily they were only few when came here .Even the name Bulgaria is wrongly put on this country ,it should be named Traco-slavia or Slavo-tracia out of historic fairness. But sadly as it is the case with France ,which should rightly be named Gallia or Romania ,which should be named Dacia ,the same happened also with Bulgaria and with many other countries in the world. All Europoid looking Turks ,by the way ,are just languistically altaized (turcized ) iranian tribes (tocharians ,skythians ,medes ,sogdians ,hwaresmians ..) and lingusitically turcized Minor Asian tribes (Hettites ,Assyrians ,Luwians ,Lykians ,Lydians ,Fryghians ,Lazes ...) It seems to me that Turks started from the east and rolled to the west like a snow ball absorbing everyone in it's path. What is it about Turks that has made so many people choose to learn Turkish and take up a Turkish identity? It seems that Turks somehow perfected the nomadic life of the cold grasslands and everyone admired it.

@Galva Tron Let me explain you with non racist and in an unprejudiced way. At some point you can be right but the rest is false. First of all we anatolian Turks who were originated from Oguz Turks came into anatolia after the battle of Manzikert. At that time we were called Seljucks and as the victor of manzkiert we started to settle down in the heart of anatolia. With the first of anatolian Oguz Beyliks a Mongol threat has started and day by they more and more Turkic originated people immigrate from central asia because of the Mongolian campaign. Eventually Mongols succieded and ended the Anatolian Seljuck beylik and then started the era of second Beyliks which included Ottomans. Since Manzkiert we are settled in anatolia and before that we came from a long road filled with many people from other etnicities. The point where your statement cuts down is us being fake Turks and also In my country there are lots of turkish-kurds who would gladly give their life for the future of their homeland. In Turkey we live with peace as Turks who adopted the Turkic culture and language. And yes we are like jews who has lots of diffrent color and ethnic variety. I can somehow understand the hatred from Balkan lands towards anatolian Turks but those statements made by most of those people are just pure disrespect and anti Turkish propaganda. Instead of trying to falsify each other I suggest you to have some respect towards mankind and have tolerance against other beliefs and culture. Peace to you my racist friend.

Good job! One of the better videos done on this topic that I know of. Bottom line is, Turkic truly is a term better describing language and culture, rather than race and ethnicity. Btw Gagauzi people are Caucasoid Turkic speaking Christians. Yet another layer added onto an already complex and colourful historical reality.

It is an ethno-linguistic concept. As for the race part, every ethnicity is a mixed race(except for the Andamanese islanders or some isolated Amazonian natives)
