AP Calculus Multiple Choice Practice Test (2016 AP CED Problems)

In this video we do 16 AP calculus multiple choice problems from the College Board's AP Calculus AB & BC Course and Exam Description document (which was called the Curriculum Framework back then). I've always called it "The Acorn Book" but I don't think it's the official name. Not enough people know about these problems! These are from the 2016-2017 version.
I've included complete solutions, discussion, and helpful hints along the way. Using actual CB problems is the best way to practice for the AP Calculus exam's multiple choice section!

For question #5, I noticed that there is zero slope along the y axis, or x = 0, which was the reason I would have chosen A over C also.

Is the table of variation allowed on the FRQ section to determine a maximum/minimum etc?

You’ll need to write out an explanation and use inequalities to justify. The table isn’t sufficient justification (it used to be). If you check out some of my frq videos you’ll see how I write them up.

For question 9, is choice D there as a distractor because it could be the graph of f”?

My guess is that the most common error on average value is to forget to multiply by 1/(b-a) after doing all the geometry to find the definite integral. (That's definitely my students' most common error on problems where they approximate average value with a Riemann sum on a table!)

Hi! Thanks for watching. First you have to figure out your goal for the exam. (What score you're looking for.) I've also collected my review stuff (and my notes, there's plenty of time to focus on a few key things!) on my website: turksmathstuff.com/ The bottom two links are about AP Review specifically. (I'd also add that these are "real" problems but on the tougher side--I got one wrong!--and the actual exam also contains quite a few questions every year that are very straightforward.) If you haven't already started, grinding the FRQs is a great way to earn a ton of points on the exam. (It's 50% of the points.)
