Can you do tumeric after radiation treatments
@yerbba9 ай бұрын
There is evidence that turmeric supplements, particularly those containing high doses of curcumin, can interfere with the metabolism and effectiveness of tamoxifen, an estrogen receptor modulator used to treat breast cancer. However, the use of turmeric as a spice in food appears to be safe. There is no interaction between turmeric and the aromatase inhibitors.

Hi doctor. Last July I was diagnosed with 3rd stage breast cancer. I had triple positive breast cancer. After chemo with Phesgo 6 doses I had mastectomy and axillilary clearance. My second biopsy showed I have some amount of cancer left. So 15 cycles of radiation and TDM1 Injection started. But unfortunately I had a bad reaction to TDM1 since I had SLE too. But during this period I started to drink tumeric milk morning and evening. I saw someone drinking and i like the taste so. I was not aware that its good for breast cancer. My radiation therapy cycles over on 19th Jan 2024. Two days later I was In ICU. My SLE triggered to a reaction of TDM1. So than on I am fighting a different battle but last month I had my second PAT scan and it shows I am in remission. So tumeric might played a role .

How about using it when you are in remission/maintenance with a target drug pertuzamab/trastuzumab? Also have you heard anything about using organic cherry juice concentrate added to your water to kill cancer? It does taste good and turmeric is an acquired taste to me. I have tried to mix it with warm milk, pepper, and a pinch of honey, but it is something you just don't want on a daily bases!

Please just be really clear, (there are inconsistent answers) are Tumeric supplements recommended for people who have finished chemo and radiation but are taking aromatase inhibitors? Thanks! Dr. Griggs and Yerba have been so wonderful during my breast cancer experience. 💕
@yerbba8 күн бұрын
Turmeric and its active compound curcumin need careful consideration for breast cancer patients on aromatase inhibitors. While turmeric might act like estrogen in the body, which could interfere with hormone-sensitive conditions, using it as a cooking spice appears generally safe. However, taking turmeric supplements alongside cancer treatments hasn't been thoroughly researched and could potentially interact with medications. Always discuss any supplement use with your healthcare team before starting, as they can evaluate potential interactions with your specific treatment. Also, please note that there are no supplements that are actually recommended other than calcium and vitamin D.

Curcumin and other antioxidants can sometimes interact with treatments, so it’s best to talk to your oncologist before starting any new supplements, especially while on hormonal therapy. Supplements often contain higher concentrations of active compounds than the spice itself. More research on turmeric's interaction with tamoxifen is needed, but in general, it's best to avoid high amounts of turmeric while on tamoxifen.

If chemo and radiotherapy don't treat cancer stem cells (CSCs) what does? Can you do a talk on this and also cover chemo and radiotherapy induced metastasis (just gooogle for the studies on topic) problems, and when chemo/radio can make cancer more aggressive as we saw happen to Shannen Doherty? Also cover radio-resistance? Why are these topics never mentioned?
@yerbba5 ай бұрын
Thanks for the great questions. It is indeed the case that any therapy can "select" for more resistant cells. That is, the treatment (whether it be anticancer therapy or an antibiotic) will kill those cells that are sensitive. Resistant cells will be left behind. It's not the case that treatment causes resistance but rather that the cells develop resistance as a way of surviving in the face of treatment. Cancer cells, bacteria, etc. are driven by the need to survive. When we talk about people being candidates for certain treatment in the second-line, third-line setting, we are referring to treatments that can help after the previous treatments don't. In the case of metastatic disease, the response rate is between 5% and 40%. In those people who do not respond to treatment, it's because the cells are resistant. We hope this is helpful.

Anything related to phyllodes breast tumor? Any phyllodes patient here
@yerbba4 ай бұрын
Phyllodes tumors of the breast are rare neoplasms diagnosed through imaging and biopsy. Treatment primarily involves surgical excision with clear margins. Wide local excision suffices for benign tumors, while mastectomy may be necessary for larger or malignant ones. Radiation therapy is sometimes used. Chemotherapy is rarely used. Close follow-up is crucial due to recurrence risk, especially in higher-grade tumors. There should be no problem with turmeric in your diet. Avoiding supplements is prudent in most people with breast cancer.
