I watched this series when I was finishing my undergraduate study in US. Alone in a faraway country without any friends or families to rely on. It was calming listening to this while I'm walking on the snow to classes. The cold, the bright white, the loneliness, all seem so vivid everytime I listen to this song.

I am going to be honest, i watched this show around two weeks ago and just finished it last night due to a guy named wakymodder84. I watched it for 3 reasons: 1: The Turn A looked alien as hell to me and i was curious as hell to see what type of gundam it was. 2: Loran is said to be a perfect Pacifist, something that even the great Kira Yamato (AKA: Jesus Yamato, AKA: The 4th worst Anime Mary sue/Gary stu in history), and 3: That Turn A is said to be the most POWERFUL GUNDAM IN EXISTENCE.! So i gave the show a shot and watched the first 10 or 15 episodes...then later stopped up until i reached thirty, and finished the rest last night. To put things as shortly as i can with this, this show was perhaps one of my most favorite ANIME show up to date. I was more interested in the characters, the situations and the conflicts than the fights in it, and this is coming from the guy who loves G Gundam due to the fact that it had more fights scenes of Gundams there than the majority of the other Gundam shows. This shoe was perfet, at least until it dipped as bit in the last half of it, but was still good none the less. And the Turn A, i just love the damn this so much now. I still remember when i first saw it Gundam Dynasty Warriors and thought 'What the hell is that thing, that don't look like a gundam' and avoided playing it. Now i love the mother fucker so much that it's 3rd in my top five favorite gundams. There is one word that represent how i feel when i finished with the show: Content. I was content with it and would recommend it to anyone that want to watch a good gundam show.

Okay let's break down the instruments we hear in this song: 1. Human Voice 2. Organ 3. Harp 4. Synthesizer 5. Drums 6. Piano 8. Violins 9. Morin Khur (A traditional Mongolian string instrument) I swear Yoko Kanno is a once in a generation talent...
@C22Acolyte5 жыл бұрын
Back in the early days of my anime fandom, I remember shunning Macross Plus because Super Play gave it 7/10 score, but I saw the advert for it on some shitty Mangle Entertainment OVA and instantly was hooked, not by the mecha or the gorgeous animation but by the haunting song that played. When I got the first OVA on VHS, I pretty much wore out the ending credits because I listened to the Torch Song so many times. It was also my first ever MP3 and the first ever anime OST I bought. Yoko Kanno has been insanely important in my life. Her music kept me sane in the army. Even after all these years, her music still sounds just as wonderful as it did back in the late 90s. She has amazing talent, but is only recognized by a small niche audience. It's a pity.

@jsh0209 жыл бұрын
Gshadow007 G-reco is trying but failing miserably, yeah theres a ton of effort but none of it is resulting in pay off, at least in destiny bad or not there were characters, G-reco has emotionless husks paraded as characters going through a nonsensical plot that info drips worse than that of even the awful captian earth
@Gshadow0079 жыл бұрын
Well at least the characters weren't Mary Sues and Gary Stus, as Emotionless and flat G-Reco's characters can be I would take that over One Dimensional BS. On the bright side, at least G-Reco is animated well. Seed Destiny was just stock footage that would make Wing, Sailor Moon and Macross 7 blush. Granted, Tomino's way of thinking is outdated by today's standards, but for his age he's probably giving it all he's got, that or the dude is just fucking crazy.
@jsh0209 жыл бұрын
Gshadow007 well it looks good in doses, the action is nice(sadly shallow story wise though) but outside of the action scenes the series looks quite poor at points, and G-reco's charaacters are 1 dimensional bs and none of the characters save kilm have any real motivation or character to them, like berrli's only defining features is a shit eating grin, gary stu ability to be better than everyone else in combat even when fighting more experienced newtypes and that he wants to bang his sister. Thats all there is to this character And tomino's way of thinking is less dated and more so he went into G-reco with the worst mindset, he was angry making G-reco and is trying to make statements on how the relief efforts during the japanese earthquake a few years back were, and hes doing this by trying to portray adults as idiots in G-reco (remember when the amry just let them steal the gundam and switch side sin ep 3, THATS why that happened as retarded as that is) He went in so hell bent on telling a message full of malice that he failed not only at telling this message but failed to make a show as a whole

Turn A's ending was so beautiful the way it tied every single Gundam series before it into it's Black History and the conclusion of Turn A. It made you feel like this was the end of Gundam. Not the absolute end or anything, it was last one Tomino directed. It still opened a new gate way. As Char once said "The old generation cannot build the new era". Seed was terrilbe and 00 was okay from what I heard. Hopefully Age is good. We need a writer to direct an awesome Gundam series.

Speaking about the Turn-A, the moment I saw biplanes, weird zeppelins and flak cannons and pre-WW1 cars, I then said to myself this is different. And indeed I was right, it was different and awesome. There is no Gundam episode like it. For me the nearest of the Gundams to reach this one is After War Gundam X, but still is completely outclassed (base on my opinion) by the Turn A.

@@AnakinSkyobiliviator Its not that surprising how many people didn't die at the end when you look at Tomino's works at the time. He began this paradigm with Brain Powerd, a series also scored by Yoko Kanji. Also as an interesting aside, the MS design, primarily Turn A and Turn X, were done by French comic book artist Moebius, who was well know for his work on the Silver Surfer series.

I mean, in the context of Tomino's earlier works (including the first Gundam, where the novelization had Amuro killed off) it was surprising. But I guess at the time, it was better since he had just emerged from his depression.

@Godzilla2000X I dunno, it was fairly comprehensive in its technology as well, given the I-Field Drive System, the concept behind the design of the Turn A and Turn X, or even their powerplants. I don't mind the idea of seeing 'Zakus' in the series, but I did mind that no other MS made it from other universes, especially Gundams. I don't think it was ever intended to be the absolute end of the Gundam franchise, (at least from a marketing perspective) but definitely the et al end for every timeline that has been or will be in Gundam. Besides, Turn A takes place in such a distant future that it feels like they left it open for many more possible "prequels".

This is a franchise that included things like talking to ghosts, pushing giant rocks with rainbow Skittles, a psycho woman who's idea of testing a kid's NT abilities by jumping naked into a bubble bath, dinky beam rifles capable of blowing up fortresses with no noticeable recharge needed, men breaking MS with a scarf, and as of now, a little MS capable of hundred mile long beam shots and beam sabers along with psychic pixie dust, and you're talking about sense? :P
@AegisKHAOS14 жыл бұрын
@Godzilla2000X How exactly did talking to ghosts (complete with making dead MS come back to life) support itself? How did little TBR making giant blast blowing colonies support itself? Or rainbow Skittles from psychoframe pushing a rock support itself? Or how the heck did pixie dust, the result of a powersource that utilizes topological defects, manage to transform humans precisely into near ageless psychics support itself? Moonlight Butterfly was merely not revealed for 40 odd eps.

@Godzilla2000X It's a little more of a headache when you consider that the MS that did survive aren't exact duplicates of the UC MS to begin with. The 'Custom' Borjornan is supposed to be the Zaku I, yet lacks a fin on the head. The Kapool is not the same as the Capule with the different skirt. The Gallop in Turn A is MUCH smaller than in MSG. The Zssan has a shoulder pod while the Zssa does not. So if anyone tries to fit things nicely, the question is 'what are those MS doing here?'

@SkillrSilvia I have to admit. It appeals to a different audience than all the other gundam series, which is why it has such a small following. However, it is the most developed story so far. It relies less on death and more on life.

@Amurutimate It may have something to do with the fact that it takes place millennia after all of the Universal Century Gundam series (they call the ∀ timeline the 'Correct Century'), thereby depriving it of any connection with ANY of the Gundam series, including the non-UC/CC Gundams. But X suffered the worst fate, and only because they moved that show from late-Friday afternoon to Saturday pre-dawn. I wonder if they still have the scripts for the final 10 or 11 episodes of X, to finish it.

Actually V-Gundam is considered by most to be one of the best Gundams, usually behind Z-Gundam of course. Tomino hated it, but that's because of a dispute with Sunrise which led to it being the darkest Gundam series to date. He felt that he had taken it out on the series, which he did. But since Gundam's story makes its biggest impact through pathos, or the extreme drama that happens after the death of an important character, it made this story both hard to watch, and hard to leave.

It simply came out of nowhere, and thus we simply filed that knowledge in as something else miracle particles can do.

@oyametalicus Because they ARE miracle particles. :P Think, those things are a result of a new powersource with the added bonus of jamming radio frequencies, jam radar, create forcefields, beam fire/blades, cloak to invisibility, coat solids to make them tougher, cause funky QBW weirdness, and change humans into near ageless psychics with other physical enhancements. Only Minovsky Particles come close. :P If you accept that, MB is acceptable.

The movies cut out so many important scenes, not just really cool battles, but also a lot of character development gets overly streamlined and cut down. The film version also kinda just cuts out a large part of them getting to the moon in the first place.

@AegisKHAOS Well in every series they tell you how most of the tech works. Turn A the moonlight just magically engages itself. I Agree with you Aegis that the Gundam Unicorn is a pretty ass mobile suit to look at. Im surprised you dont like 00. I think its the best series to date and the movie was crazy good. It was the only series that started out okay. Season two just got way over the top with how the fights were performed and the movie pulled a first in Gundam history.

@oyametalicus Eh... I'm personally sticking with Gundam Unicorn over 00. Unicorn is prettier. :P Well, Katoki designs in general are automatically pretty. :P By the by, let me clear up one other thing. 00 has Special Edition movies to go with the feature movie, so 00 itself also has more than one movie like Turn A Gundam. ;p I don't remember the number of volumes for the Special Edition, but I'm thinking there's two of them.

Actually, Tomino wasn't involved in ZZ for a while. It wasn't until he came back in that it whipped around in story.

For me it was definitely the ruination of the old characters (outside of Athrun who was actually pretty well used in this series) and the nullification of Mu's sacrifice. That was the most heart wrenching scene in the original Seed and it was a wonderful part that was ruined by Destiny's storyline (this coming from someone who's favorite Seed character is Mu).
