I love your fountains and I cannot wait to build a couple for my garden. I do have a suggestion for you... For the bird bath you made from concrete, place a bunch of river rocks, mixed with those glass pebbles you can buy at those Dollar Trees and 99-cent stores that come in a variety of really pretty colors. Place enough of the mixture of small river rocks and glass pebbles so that the water is still reachable, but there is plenty of dry surface for the butterflies, bees, and other small beneficial creatures to drink, bathe, but not drown. Plant some Butterfly Bushes and a variety of blue and purple flowers nearby to attract some Monarch butterflies and honey bees. You'll love watching your garden come alive. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with the rest of us and giving us ideas on these beautiful bird baths we can build for our own gardens. May God always Bless you with good health and prosperity in all you do.

I love this idea! I’ve been looking for a unique solar fountain idea, but for hummingbirds. What I’m going to do to attract them is use a fountain nozzle that’ll just gurgles water out. This will also solve a lot of the loss of water due to wind sweeping the spray away. Thanks for the video!

Yes, I have another video where I show the different nozzles and which works best for the shallow basins. I took the fountains out for winter and put a rock in the bath. This bath attracts a lot of finches and bluebirds. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

@@BobbiJo nice! Autocorrect goofed up my previous comment, it’s now edited. I am actually educated 😂. We live in the desert southwest. Water of any sort attracts so many birds. But it makes it more interesting when the water circulates and it prevents mosquito larvae from being able to live in it. Of course, when you refill the water daily it isn’t a problem anyway.

Great idea! Love the color and love the robin! Yes, birds are drawn to the trickling water sounds! The straws are basically bumpers so the fountain doesn't go to the sides and spill out even more water! I bought the glass solar fountain on amz this year. Try that one too! It has a different attachment that keeps the water lower. I agree that the planter tray is probably too shallow. That's what I've been using in my broken bird bath. Thanks for the cool DIY's !

Thank you so much for the review on this solar water fountain and the link on Amazon! I have looked at many but wasn't sure if the little inexpensive solar ones would work. You showed this end of May 2023 and now it's mid July 2023, is it still working as well as it was in this video? I been wanting to make a birdbath fountain and this video was just the ticket to spur me along! I just found your channel today so I haven't looked at other videos yet. I'm in NW Florida so you know it's hot hot hot here and super humid. I hate to have to put the mosquito dunks in my water sources even though the dunk is safe for all wildlife except insects that breed in the water like mosquitoes but I still don't like having to use the dunk and if I have a fountain and the water is moving then they don't like to lay their eggs on moving water. I'm not sure how a solar would work for that though since it don't work at night unless it continues with yard lighting because I have loads of that. I live in a very rural area but I am totally fenced in, I only have about an acre of land.
@BobbiJo Жыл бұрын
It still works great. It needs direct sunlight for the best water flow. I have a very shady yard so mine only gets direct sunlight about 6 hrs a day. I'm not sure if it works under other light sources. I may put it under my lamp out front tonight and see if it works. I will let you know. I understand the humidity and heat. I grew up in southeast Georgia and the mosquitos were horrible.

You will have much better luck with your birdbath if you lower your water spray to about 6 inches max or even make it more of a bubbler. The wind won't be blowing the water around, and the birds will be able to actually bathe in it, especially if it's low level. I would also suggest adding platforms such as rocks or even repurposed items items to add landing and bathing stations. You have a great start and have spent an amazing amount of money, certainly more than I ever have. I live in San Diego and have other critters too besides birds but only rabbits, skunks, raccoons, and possums. We have coyotes but not in my yard.. I love watching Robbie and Gary on KZbin in the Los Angeles hills. She is the Queen of the hummingbirds, with literally thousands enjoying her feeders and fountain, and she is an endless inspiration...but be careful 😂 because it becomes addictive . She uses some of the strangest things for fountains, soda bottles, kurig coffee pods and just about anything from the thrift store. She grows an amazing organic veggie garden .in plastic totes from the Dollar Store and has a cute little dog and emus. Us crazy Caliornians right😊 You may not want to go any further than what you have, but I am now 80 and always looking for fun way to enhance my small space in the senior mobile home park where I live. My cats .weare harnesses and leashes, we go outside where the hummingbirds love to tease them and just enjoy what nature we can. You have so much more, a real house & yard ❤ Have fun, you have a great start so cut loose and really GO FOR😂 GREATNESS...Dana, a crazy SoCal Gardener

If you just use the straight nozzle instead of one of the attachments the wind won't blow the water out and empty it. Also have to periodically clean off the pump as it will clog with debris. Find the center of the circle with a paper pattern you fold to find center the mark on your wood. The extra time is worth it.

You can use the fountain without a cap or make the cap holes slightly larger. These fixes reduce the height of the spray. Another option is to get a solar panel that is separate from the pump. This allows you to place the fountain in an area with shade while the panel is exposed to the sun.

Yes, there are several options. It came with different caps. The birds seem like the one that bubbles instead of sprays the best.

Drill the small holes bigger so the water doesn't spray out. It works great for me. And you can put rocks on the inside too.
