Learn how to make a cheap birdbath! This was a simple project and I think I will make another one out of a different style lamp. In the video when I was shopping, the basic birdbath I said was $49.99 was actually $99.99. I couldn't see the price tag because it was under the dirty water. Let me know if you have any questions! Thanks for watching.

I love your birdbath. I bought a tall lamp that looks like a column from Roman or Grecian days. It's very heavy and I want to make a birdbath. I'm still looking for a suitable 'bath' vessel. Ideally I'd like to be able to remove the bath part for cleaning. Still brainstorming for how to do that. I love all the ideas I see here.
@BobbiJo

@@shirleyens7707 unfortunately, I broke this bird bath with my hoe. I accidentally hit it when I was weeding the garden and I broke it beyond repair. I recently found a couple of lamps at Goodwill that I am going to try to turn into bird baths again. I'm also repairing my concrete bird bath because it started chipping over the winter. I have a lot of projects and not enough time to get them all completed. Let me know if you figure out a way to be able to remove the bath part for cleaning.

I am amazed you don't have a ton of mosquitoes at those bird baths. I always look for instructions to use a solar water pump just to keep the bugs at bay or it becomes unbearable in warm weather. Thanks for the idea about a lamp - that is a great pedestal as well as a posting on top of bird bath for an ornamental flow of water for hummingbirds.

July-Sept when it is extremely hot and humid the mosquitoes show up but the birds don't leave water in it long in the hot months. I have to add water 2-3 times a day during those months because the birds splash it all out. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I'm about to add another lamp bath and this one will have a fountain.

This year I have the cleanest Robins, 4 birdbaths and they use them constantly for bathing. They love the water. I also took a tray like you just used to make this beautiful birdbath and made it for the bees. I glued marbles with aquarium glue to the inside, just filled to top of marbles and the bees love it. I would find drowned ones in the bigger birdbaths, couldn't have that. Thank you for sharing, your garden looks so pretty 🐦🌻🐝

@@shirleyens7707 I bought AQUARIUM SEALANT and I think another was MARINE JB WELD, you can use it in the water, I glued marbles to the inside of a glass pie plate and the trays that go under planters. this way the Bees can walk on the marbles and the glue doesn't hurt them. I got black wire baskets from the Dollar $ turned them upside down and set the trays on them, Bees love it and you can hardly see the baskets among the flowers. I use a brush with clean water to clean. Sometimes a little bleach to disinfect, rinse GOOD. Those Bees are hard workers 🐝

When you added pea gravel to your new $10 birdbath, you took away a lot of bathing area and drinking water capacity. A simple rock in the middle would suffice. Plus cleaning out and changing the water would be more simple without all those little rocks to deal with.

Great idea but I would have added sand or concrete to the base and also used a deeper dish. The birds around my place like a dish about 2" deep. I put a rock in it so the butterflies can land on it and get a drink.

I did add a deeper dish and they enjoyed it more and also concrete in base. I've made a couple of more since this video. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment.

Big thanks, this was so helpful, you showed and explained things really well. Great job! And your garden and bird baths are all just beautiful. I just love the lamp base shape. There's spray paint you can get that gives a cement look if anyone wants a more natural looking texture. I think I would do that for my one. I am going to look for a lamp base. I visit thrift stores regularly. 😉 I did read that bird bath depth should be 2 inches or less in the middle center if the bowl has sloping sides. So I think the shallow ones are just fine. And it looks like that the birds like what you have. I love the tip of the gravel and rocks too. Good to know.

Thank you. I didn't know about the cement paint. I will have to find that. I had this paint left over from a table I painted. This bird bath actually broke over the fall. I accidentally hit it with a garden hoe when I was clearing weeds from my garden and the base broke. I'm in the process of looking for the perfect lamp at thrift stores to do another one. I will do another video when I find what I'm looking for. Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting. I love to hear from my viewers.

@@BobbiJo Oh no about the bird bath, that's a shame though I can understand how these accidents happen. I hope you find the perfect lamp to make another one. So the paint I mentioned is made by Krylon. It is called Fusion All-in-one paint +primer. On the can it says "Textured soapstone finish" and is gray. The cap on the can looks like and feels textured like cement. I have a can of it and but I have not tested it out yet but I bought it to paint a yard ornament I have as I want to make it look like stone. I just haven't gotten around to the project yet like a hundred other projects I want to do. 😂 So I have no idea if The paint is any good but I was super happy that something like it exists. I can't Remember if I got it from Lowes or Home Depot but it's from one of those two places. Thanks for your reply to my comment. Nice. 😊

Be careful about painting the birdbath. Paint can be toxic to the birds. Be sure to use safe materials

@Cookin' with Bobbi Jo I'm aware, but someone commented about painting with "cenent" paint or Krylon, so I thought I should caution people. Not everyone is aware of paint toxicity to birds.

You could take an old car tire and fill it with concrete, and let it dry. Take it out and go from there with your imagination 😊

Aww thank you for the kind words. I did replace the plate on top with a deeper one and the birds enjoy it more. I keep meaning to do an update video but life is busy this time of year. NW Florida is beautiful. I lived in South East FL for a few years. Prefer the gulf more though. Thanks for subscribing.
