I also enjoyed the voice-over. I often find that I simply don't have the time (or attention span, lol) to watch a long tutorial. I searched for "turning a shaving brush", and this video perfectly and concisely answered many questions I had. Thanks Mike!

Glad it was helpful! I need to do some comparison of the metrics YT provides for this video and the longer one I did earlier to see if it will guide me to better videos. Shorter is sometimes better but not always and not for every viewer.

Good sound quality, helpful narration, and this makes me want a lathe even more. Synthetic knots have really improved over the years and they're quite good now.

I agree. Get a lathe and fall into the Vortex.

Another nice brush Mike, I’m sure your daughter-in-law will love it. That black & white synthetic (aka “tuxedo knot”) is a great synth. As for the voiceover I think it was excellent, it would be a nice addition to future videos. Thanks for the vid & take care. - Jay

i think you done a fine job mike with the voice over. not my favorite way to do videos ether but sometimes its necessary. the key is to do it in a way people dont really think about it alot and i think you done that really well . i can tell you put alot of thought into your videos and it shows . i do alot of carving videos most of the time and have just started doing lathe videos so ive found myself trying to figure out new camera angles and come to realize i need to build a camera mount that i can move around . i think im going to have to modify my shop light that has that movable arm into a camera mount to lol . ok well sorry for the long comments cant help myself .

Your voice over was high quality and works well with your excellent explanations. I especially like the "little" asides that help me understand the process of wood turning.

Hi Mike! I am turning some of these, and wondering about the best finish! I would like durable and still attractive (no surprise), so I'm trying a few things. One suggestion had been Boiled Linseed Oil followed by CA - however, that seems to produce an "orange peel" surface, so I was disappointed. I noticed your use of the Minwax antique oil, so I'm wondering how that holds up. Do you have to re-coat periodically? And can you suggest a long lasting (waterproof) finish?? Many thanks in advance, I really learn a lot from your videos!!
@MikePeaceWoodturning3 жыл бұрын
Any waterproof film finish is likely to eventually fail. You would need to extend the finish into the hole as water is going to sneak into the edges. Minwax AO penetrates the wood but will likely need replenishing to look shiney. I used my brush for several years (bocote) before refreshing. Another option is to use a resin blank.
@westifer5663 жыл бұрын
@@MikePeaceWoodturning Thanks Mike! I am considering making a hybrid blank (I prefer turning wood much more than turning resin!), where the knot is mounted in a resin socket. In addition, I'm going to check out the minwax product, experiment with poly and CA, and try to figure out what works best in the short and long run. I appreciate your consultation, and love the videos!. Oh, and I think the voice-over works great. I think a combination is probably the superior choice. Many thanks! - Wes
