In this video, we install a remote control relay in an outlet in the shop. It only costs $24.99, can be installed in under 30 mins, and works amazingly to turn on any outlet in the shop, garage, or house. This switch is quick, easy, and very affordable. My dust collector for the CNC has its own remote power switch. Life saver for sure.

Nick - consider using your remote to drive a contactor. The contacts on the remote relay are under rated for the application. I have the same remote relay that controls a contactor rated for 30 amperes - good for my 5 hp dust collector. Your remote relay will last a whole lot longer!

That little relay you held in your hand is way too small for a big 220V machine like that.

great job love that you taped everything. not trying to be an a-hole but i am sure this will sound like it. I do have one comment the outlet you have is not rated for a 30 amp circuit. it is only rated for 20 amps. You really need to change it out to the proper outlet or change the breaker to 20 amp. i am just trying to educate.

You caught me lol. The unit is sized for 30 but that was a 20. All the rest are 30. The panel is right for the plug. Just wanted to keep it easy for others to understand.

Good tutorial but the actual relay on this thing is only rated to 1/2hp @ 220v or 1hp @110v, so most Oneida dust collectors are actually way over this limit. I'm guessing because of inrush current vs a strictly resistive load. I know people have gotten these to work with larger motors... just saying if you want to do this more safely, find a relay rated for the receptacle AND the max HP of your load. Good video and thx for the content!

@@WOLF-gz8yv There's a remote that Grizzly sells that I use and it works great and even Oneida sells one as well (from ivac I think). Both designed for multi-HP motors.
@karlgabel9822
@karlgabel9822 Жыл бұрын
@@WOLF-gz8yv I ended up using the same setup to control a 30 amp contactor for my 5 hp dust collector. The remote control drives the contactor coil which takes a whole lot less current to operate. The contactor contacts are rated for a full 30 amps - 5 hp motor needsc20 hampered. I also added a time delay circuit to keep the contactor engaged to keep the dust collector motor from burning out.

Hey Nick great video and very well explained. Would you happen to know how this can be done at the breaker panel instead of the one outlet and if so maybe for multiple outlets or breakers? Thank you ahead of time for the help!
@Statedwoods
@Statedwoods Жыл бұрын
You could just hook it in line just after the breaker and house it inside the breaker box. Can be put in line anywhere you would like really.

Hello, do you know of a remote setup for older homes that have a "pigtail" wire, where basically somebody has dropped a hot line to connect to two terminals of a single-gang wall switch solely to turn a light fixture on and off? I have one I want to basically turn into a remote-controlled inline switch, and remote switches and relays I've seen so far including the one in your video here appear to have Line and Neutral input/output whereas all I have is a single line, basically. Any leads would be appreciated! 🙏

I’ve seen other videos on this too. Some similar concerns that this isn’t rated to cover the higher horsepower of these cyclone units. Any comment on if it’s lasted for you? Mines a 2hp. Great video!

These work great. My dust collector is 3hp. I also have 2 rotary vane vacuum pumps connected and 1 remote to turn both pumps on. 220v 30 amp breakers and they work great. It says rated for it

Will this work on a 240v 3-wire (2-Hot & 1 Neutral) outlet used to charge my Tesla on a 50A circuit breaker? I don't like leaving my mobile connector always plugged in when not in use. This would allow me to turn it on when needed and off when not, thanks!.

Hi Nick, I went ahead and ordered the switch and hooked it up for my 220v dust collector. It works. But I discovered it’s a single pole switch. One of the hot wires (110) always stays hot. The switch only turns the other hot line (110) on and off. Is this recommended or even safe-that there is continuous voltage (110) flowing into the machine from one line even when the switch is off?
@Statedwoods
@Statedwoods Жыл бұрын
Yea from what I have read its totally safe. Not much different than a light switch
@karlgabel9822
@karlgabel9822 Жыл бұрын
Use the unit Nick describes and hook it up to the coil on a 220VAC contactor. The contactor will need to have a 110 VAC coil. Lot less current needed to control the coil and the remote unit will last a lot longer. Mine uses the same remote control to operate a contactor coil. Contactor contacts control current to a 5 hp dust collector.

This product has no certification listings in the ad. There's not a chance that I would use this in my house without some type of certification like UL, CE, EMC, CSA. That's the problem with Amazon people think that just because it's listed for sale that it's safe. Do your homework people, don't buy garbage products like this.

@@Statedwoods - Actually my phone is made in Seoul South Korea and has been thoroughly tested due to international trade agreements between the United States and South Korea. I mean seriously what are you talking about? Are you trying to defend the piece of s*** products that come out of China that have no certification or testing done before they enter the glorious Amazon network to be sold all over the world? All I'm saying is that consumers need to be aware of the products they buy. There are tons of garbage dangerous products for sale and people bring them right into their house not knowing any better. Just because something's available doesn't mean that it's safe. I think the following statement applies perfectly to a guy like you " a little bit of knowledge is a very dangerous thing "
