The only problem is if you have to use the spare tire…. Then U have to take everything off. Then what happens if the reason you need a spare is you tore the hell out of your tire. These type of basket mounts don’t mount easily or well or securely to a misformed, torn up tire, or just a rim. Why not make a mount that mounts to the tailgate reinforcement bracket/hinges? Then you can remove the spare and it won’t rely on the integrity of the tire.

Hey texasgrillchef This is easy to take on and off. I understand where you are coming from though, but have to say in all my years of offroading, I 've never seen a tire get that badly torn up offroading. Now I don't do extreme stuff, but still not sure a tire would get that bad. I guess if you have a blowout or something going down the road, but never happened to me before. If it were to happen, it is not difficult to take off. Then I would just have to find a place to store what was on the rack.

@@trailhunterusa It maybe very easy to take on and off, like many others that can be easy to take on and off. You are lucky. i have torn a tire to hell before. While i will aggree it is rare. it is possible and has happened to people before. Just something to keep in mind is all. I have worked on a design that will mount to my tailgate reinforcement bracket.
