Turn on the forehand is a great skill to learn. It has many benefits such as improving flexibility in your horse, increasing safety, and laying a foundation for more advanced movements.
In this video, I cover the basics of getting started doing a turn on the forehand for beginners. I like to teach this to my horses in two phases. The first is to help the horse understand the movement going both right and left along a rail or fence. Then after practicing this in phase 2 I like to focus on improving the flexibility and forwardness of the turn.
If you are learning this movement or looking to teach it to your horse I hope this was a help! 😊
Feel free to leave any questions & I'll talk to you in the next video!

This is the first video of yours that I’ve seen. It’s so clear, well explained, and systemic. I love the arrows and charts you put in. Looking forward to working on this tomorrow with my new (and first) horse.

It looks good, when you talk of these teaching/ learning sessions for the horse are you speaking of everyday ( of course time permitting) or do or can you do it every other day and pick up where you left off on the last session? Another great video.

Hi😊 This is a great question. How often and how long I work on an exercise depends on the individual horse . Some horses do better working on a new movement every other day. Others do best if I introduce the new movement briefly each time. Some of the things that I always keep in mind when practicing new things is the horses response. I try to make sure I don’t drill the movement and keep it as positive as possible. 🐴

I just started lessons a few weeks ago. I’ve been told to steer with the reins. How do you use your legs/body? I’ve watching through your videos but still confused.

How long should each training session last.. Thanks 🏇

Great question 😊 It depends on the horse, and what we are working on. I generally do training sessions for around 30 to 45 minutes. It might be a little longer or shorter depending on how the session goes. The most important thing to me is that I end on a good note.
