Just want to say how much I appreciate your insight. I had Graves’ and hashimotos in 2008 which led to a thyroid storm then complete thyroidectomy. Dr. Ekberg, here it is 2024 and I feel worse than ever. Still have hashimotos symptoms, but worse than anything is the weight gain. I’m 49 and otherwise healthy. I’ve started following your advice and feel so much better. I was jogging and so hungry after. You’re the first person to address why- that I was burning sugar during the jog. So, I am back to walking. Cortisol tests are fine but my stomach looks like I eat 5 dozen donuts a day. I am so embarrassed. Thank you for being so kind to us. I am not glutinous. Thank you for all you do! Love to you and yours.

I have been 16-8 intermittent fasting for 5 days, I feel fantastic, I was scared stiff of feeling hungry, I did for he first two days I fasted, I just have water or green tea and the hunger went away. I am yet to see weight loss, but I am swimming in the sea every morning halfway through the fast so hopefully the demands the cold water and the exercise put on my muscles will promote fat burning, I am morbidly obese currently at 130kg or 286 pounds, so seeing results will take some time. I have actually quit my job while I am doing this because work gets in the way of my exercise and fasting regime starting work too early, the fear of being bored in the office and needing to compensate with food etc. In five days a missed the 16 hour deadline by one hour and on another day surpassed it by nearly 2 and a half hours because I was keeping busy. I am determined to keep this up and already seeing savings in food purchased.

I really wish fasting was understood in the mainstream. Fasting and eating real food (no UPF) has changed my life. Yet my wife, mum etc. all get concerned when I'm doing a 3 or 4 day fast as they think it's a form of eating disorder. It needs to be understood and accepted by society. For those without diabetes -- here is how I lost 9% of body weight since 1/1: eating anything I want before 11am; only water after that. The first week is hard, then it's ok. Occasional dinners (when I waive all restrictions) allowed, in average once in 2 weeks. Before 11am I eat what I want -- I don't care about calories, but my wife avoids buying food with transfats so I probably don't consume too much of them. I never visit places like Starbucks or Macdonalds. The first 7% of the weight went away pretty fast; then it slowed down but still I am descending. Note that the weight can fluctuate so only weekly averages really matter.

I've been trying to understand all this for several years. I believe I do now, and this video has helped, but I seem to be an outlier. I've been eating Keto, and then tried carnivore and have been eating OMAD for almost 4 years. Also, no grains or sugar or even sugar subs for years. Even when I do prolonged fasts (water only) my blood glucose doesn't drop below 200 until at least day 3. I don't get hungry until day 10 or more. My HOMA-IR IS 7. After being on the carnivore diet (strict) my A1c was 10 - up from a keto diet. That was ZERO carbs so the glyconeogenesis was working overtime! I felt really good on the carnivore diet. Much lower inflammation and pain, and I've lost weight. I think I have insane levels of insulin resistance. I'm not sure where to go from here. Drugs are a solid NO for me. It feels like I've tried just about everything natural.
