Not a great solution I'm afraid. The fact it's Android 9 means Netflix won't run after being installed. Also, you skipped over the part where the system update simply does not work.. you just said "ok update is done". It would have been better for you to show us that updates don't work and just remain on "null", meaning there is zero chance of going up to the latest patch for Android 9, completely eliminating any probability of getting Netflix and other apps to work after installing. Also, this isn't Android 9, this is a custom ISO put together by an unknown developer, further raising concerns about whether or not it's safe to enter your Google account info into.. which is why I used a dummy account when testing this instead of my real one. It looks like this was once a useable project, but now it's just a shame that it's barely qualified and doesn't have the bells and whistles.

It will save you 50$ at the beginning but if you think it for long term then it will cost you more as the power consumption of CPU will be higher than android tv box.

if you have a small enough pc which usually that's what's used in this scenario..the difference is about 3-8 W...will take a few years to see a dent in your bill...android boxes aren't as energy friendly as people think actually.(meaning when we're talking about a few watts)

You can extract the data32 or whatever, if your usb drive is LARGER than that. Ex: if you have 32GB drive, use data16, 64GB, use data32. I personally recommend using usb 3.0 (or more) to make things more responsive (you can also run it from the pc driver itself, but you are limited to the data32)

I can't use other .img other than the 4GB because of FAT32. Rufus can't extract the iso if I use NTFS... Any advice?

@@sychio I think Fat32 is fine, otherwise you should use Ext4 probably, I'm never used it except for Linux...

Far easier to implement Android TV in a virtual environment using Android Studio then you don't have to mess with boot order and bios settings. You can boot your PC as per normal and then open the TV app, there are lots of how-to guides online for this method..

that's a good way too, but this one is more for a portable usb android tv, so you can plug it on any pc or laptop and strat only on the usb..so it doesn't need to be installed anywhere bu the usb...but the one you're saying, is more for when you want to keep it stable on one pc..makes sense

Easier, sure. But if you're putting this on a clunker which is likely how people would want to do this there's no point in doing that. Not only does create more overhead for an old PC, it's actually more complicated since you now you have to worry about two machines (the physical one and the virtual one). Virtualization is great in a lot of circumstances. This isn't one of them.

Also, maybe it's just because I'm old but boot order and BIOS settings are a triviality to me. Those are easy things to manage even if you've never been in BIOS. Also, if you're virtualizing you'll have to go into BIOS to turn on hardware virtualization anyway.

Yes but you have to install it on your disk with Rufus, so instead of installing on usb...you go ahead anf put it on disk and follow same instructions

no that one has a usb receiver...kind of like the dongle devices...so it connects itself to the usb receiver.

@@OMNITEK Been looking to do this for some time with a thin client style PC, but everywhere I check seems to be a problem with widevine DRM that prohibits you from using Netflix/Prime or limits you to the mobile version. I might give this a try and find out.

@@OMNITEK Well I tried, but I can't get the zip files to extract, they either throw an error every time or I get a message that the files on the disk can not be larger than 4GB. I am using a 128GB USB 3.0 drive and it is in vfat. So It looks like I won't be able to try this out since it suddenly cant have files larger than 4GB, not sure why the ISO would be in a format that doesnt allow that yet has .dat files meant for larger file systems.
