i have always had good luck holding the power screw and backing the nut against the tamper proof ring. it usually spreads the band apart and you can easy pop it off with a screwdriver

@darrenjlobb And also, dont wind the smoke screw in, itl just make it smoke, that will defeat gaining afc travel as you just remove the first part of it with that screw, best plan is to gain as much travel as you can with the pin, retract the smoke screw as much as possible, then tune the max fuel screw until its just clean on boost (or slight smoke if u want full power) and then only adjust the smoke screw if its totally clean off boost, which I doubt it will be, max travel means less smoke!

@carswesty No Stupid questions. Unlike gas engines, there is no ignition/coil/spark plugs etc that can be turned off. With a running diesel, as long as there is fuel, air and compression, there is FIRE.

@darrenjlobb I am well aware of the smoke screw adjustment and how it works. Some guys dont like the black smoke and I happen to be one of thoes guys that just dont care. Just to let you know there is a plate that is made that you can put under the AFC to help with the smoke but that is the tree hugger kind of people.

If that collar was on the fuel screw no one has turned the pump up yet. Do not mess with the smoke screw on the AFC if you drop a fuel pin in it only the fuel screw.

why doesnt the cut of solonoid stop engine during run away? after all when the governor mechanism jams its just holding the spill off valve open on the main element? Its a mystery to me.

@McLarenMercedes1995 The 12 valve is better that had the p-7100 injuction pump on it. Less problems with the head and the early 24 valves had block problems it had the 53 block that likes to crack. So the 2nd gen 12 valve is the better out of the early cummins.

Great frickin video you are a diesel super genius!!! I love hearing the turbo spool. I have a question. at 11:18 you say that #3 is is the fastest fuel position but you drop it in the #4 position at 11:33 Just wondering.

@777worldliner Yep it is made by bosh. You can turn up the fuel on just about any mechancial pump.

@TheDieselStop I have been told a Co2 fire extinguisher works but it makes one heck of a mess. A good rule of thumb for anybody if you don't know about injection pump adjustments leave them to somebody that does before you can say oh schit the engine is taking off. Been told about diesel trucks that have run away in the oil/gas industry where the engine is running on fumes from something else and the engine takes off the reason for the positive air shut off on the trucks.

@darrenjlobb Also remove the plastic washer from the afc pin, will gain your more afc travel, meaning you can run more total on boost fuel, and less off boost, meaning less smoke!

hey wayne ... say i just put my fuel pin in and it seems to be that this pump was turned up already ....im not positive tho ... that protective cap was off of the power screw ( but there was a protective collar on it ) and i went to turn the start wheel and only got 3/4 of a turn and then it stopped ..... and comparing to the looks of yours after the mod it looks to be the same...so i just dropped in the fuel pin ... and only turned the smoke screw once ... that sound ok to you ??

@Titliest07 I had a video how to turn up the fuel on the 6.2 and the 6.5 diesel on my last channel. It only takes 15 to 20 min to turn the fuel up on 6.2 & 6.5.

@Djkyle65 Trust me It does not smoke like this during its normal driving rpm range. The timing on a diesel works on fuel pressure, so low boost levels doing this mod yes there will be extra unburnt fuel. At normal driving you will never see that kind of smoke. Like I said in other comments I will be adding propane or NOS to the unburnt fuel making big HP & that will clean up the unbernt fuel.

@TheDieselStop Heh, im deffo not a tree hugger, if you watch any of my dyno videos you will see the chonic ammounts of coal i blow....But you will find when you get to a certain point, itl just blow so much smoke itl bog out if you dont control it with your foot / acaully get more turbo lag than u would with less fuel... Look foward to seeing the thing go! :)

I'am not brave enough to play with injection pumps the fear of a runnaway and parts popping out of the pump. Old 2 stroke Detroits are bad for runnaways, adjust the fuel rack the wrong way, stand back and watch the distroy it diesel go LOL.

@Gasser4x4 He has a P-7100 injection pump on his not the little VE like I have. All he has to do is buy a fuel plate or grind his down. There is alot you can do with one of thoes P-Pumps like he has.

Easier way to remove the second part off the max fuel screw I find is to remove the screw entirely as it is, mark the nut with tip ex if you want, then mount in a vice and remove with plyers...

Could you split open this pump further to make repairs/modifications? I've been told that you can only go so far with these pumps before you risk mechanical failure, at least when it comes to rebuilding one.

This was all temporary, that air cleaner is now gone & at the time of this video it only had a down pipe on it,, now it has a pipe to the back.
