The intercooler upgrade just puts back the power the vehicle already had, that it lost/loses from heat build up. Hence not a real power increase. It just helps keep the power there that dissipates in heat.
@badams03118 жыл бұрын
You sound stupid.
@Archontechnica8 жыл бұрын
Thats basically correct. The intercooler allows for denser cooler air which should equate to more power over the pitfully small and inefficient stock unit.

Activating the RDU while off throttle will not help with getting the rear end to play unless the vehicle is given some gas. The RDU only helps with that when it is being supplied with power. Off-throttle oversteer is usually a function of suspension setups, that's why it can be dialed into FWD vehicles. All activating the RDU all the time will do is eliminate the milliseconds worth of delay that it takes for the clutches to engage and cause the RDU to heat up WAY faster.

@ericmichel38578 жыл бұрын
Beautiful? compared to what? Your mom's minivan maybe. It's a Focus with a slightly different front/rear treatment. It is a hopped up economy car with better than average performance. None of the economy car based hot rods (EVO,STI,...) are "beautiful" when compared with a true purpose built sports cars. Even the low end sports cars like Mustang, Camaro, FRS, are far better looking. These are the asymmetrical fat chicks of the automotive world, granted they are gussied up with a bit of hair and makeup, but let's keep it real. In many ways (to live with) they are much better than the exotic purpose built machines, but they are no work of art. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but in general these are not beautiful cars from a purely esthetic perspective. Do you think the standard Focus is Beautiful? Because slap a wing and a slightly different shaped bumper cover and you have the same car, from a distance, and even up close most people would not be able to tell them apart.

Subbed and liked!! Please help me! Last year, I bought a 2014 evo x gsr brand new for $30,999 (they still had two 2014s). Ford Focus RSs were being marked up at the time and I'm not willing to pay MSRP, so over MSRP is out the question. What type of power can I get out of the RS? With my evo, I was quoted 345hp on 91 (cali) and 385 e85 for $3,600. Includes flex fuel. And 9k for 400+ on 91 and 450+ on e85. I know they are different cars but if I slap on a whipple on my 2012 5.0, I'm at 600hp. So spending that much for that little kind of makes me not want to do it. Where are you guys located?

How can you compare dyno graphs on an sti to an rs when the rs is being dyno'd in 2 wheels drive? That leads me to another question why dyno a car advertised as having this great 4wd system in 2wd mode. Im sure there is some reason for this since this sint the first time Ive seen this done. You can take these numbers with a grain of salt in 4wd mode you are going to have more drive train loss but i guess non the less good numbers for stock turbo and shitty 91
@BlakesGarage8 жыл бұрын
+Ryan Mattson read the comments below Brandon addressed this.
@badams03118 жыл бұрын
As Blake said, I explained the awd vs 2wd. We get this question asked a lot. Also the reason for disconnecting the RDU is because the rear wheels are overdriven (the front and rear gear ratios are different in this car). When connected on the dyno, the front and rear rollers are connected and the car thinks it is slipping so the ecu steps in and will cut power. Ford actually has a 'dyno mode' coded into the car which disconnects the RDU electronically. Cobb is working on this so you can disable the RDU through the AP without unplugging it.
@samiamdj86038 жыл бұрын
My understanding is that Ford was focused (sorry for the pun) on weight, so they maxed out the RS's hp. Basically it can't be modified without things breaking. And what a bummer that you have to add a Rear Diff cooler to be able to rally it. A stupid way to save weight. And what's with the Subie comparison?? Subies are no match for an RS. But an RS is no match for a Mitsubishi Evo, and from all of the video's I've seen the VW R beats the RS. In only one video did the RS beat the R. By 2/10th of a second and the R got off to a pitiful start. Where is the massive hp that Ford touts?

FWD results make you feel good, but realizing you'll lose at least 10%whp plugging back in the AWD system makes you feel not-so-good... And that peak wtq ~3,250! o.0 That makes me pucker. Mazdaspeed 3s have windowed many blocks before we realized how dangerous it is to have a ton of torque that low in the powerband. We generally always tune it to be >4,000 rpms on stock engine internals. Hopefully the RS has much stouter rods. Mazdaspeed rods are really solid too; it's just tq that low in the powerband is especially hard on rods. I'm putting down 380wtq, but that's not until ~4,250.
@msalazar898 жыл бұрын

@BlakesGarage8 жыл бұрын
+Silver 07FA5 No you have to disconnect the RDU because it overdrives the rear wheels and will do weird things on the dyno. Everyone Dyno's it in FWD.
@Badxperiment8 жыл бұрын
the RDU does not talk to the dyno correctly and freaks out. so you have to make it FWD to dyno it. the power difference is slim (10whp) from what I have seen and heard.
@badams03118 жыл бұрын
+Badxp3riment we have done pulls in 2wd and awd back to back. The traces were nearly identical. If anything, 2wd was slightly lower. And as Blake was saying, when you disconnect the RDU, it just releases the clutch packs. The driveline and rear spool is still connected. Plus, the rear and front rollers were still connected on the dyno and the calibration was still set in awd. Number are numbers and just used as a tuning tool. They don't matter. They're primary used to show gains for the delta. It's easier for people to comprehend when you calculate the percentage of power gained rather than just looking at a peak number. Hence why Travis likes to look at the average numbers.

The STI and RS are pretty much equal in a straight line. The RS is 100-150 lbs lighter than STI, and in proper awd mode, makes about 265 awhp/300 awtq.
@strengthhonor64707 жыл бұрын
Michael Harris you think STI is making 300ftlb of torque at the wheels stock? what are you smoking?
@allenskaggs87238 жыл бұрын
stock pull woulda have been without your methods the car should should be awd vs awd i personally dont care what the difference between 4wd and 2wd
@BlakesGarage8 жыл бұрын
Allen Skaggs this car cannot be dynoed in AWD as the rear wheels are over driven.

Why is the numbers lower than 350. You take away power. 🤔
@BlakesGarage8 жыл бұрын
+Chris Chase wheel horsepower not crank.
@numinous47898 жыл бұрын
Indeed. And these aren't real RS numbers anyways. They're FWD-only RS power numbers. Once the AWD is re-enabled, it should easily lose another 10% whp.
@badams03118 жыл бұрын
+Numinous nope, that's false. We have tested it back to back 2wd vs awd. Traces were nearly identical. Read through the comments
@numinous47898 жыл бұрын
badams0311 Must be because virtually all of the power comes through the front wheels in the normal setting. It's in the drift setting that the highest proportion of the power goes to the rear. Lemme guess, test not run in the high rwhp mode? Run the test again in that mode and you'll see much different results, I'm sure. Can't argue with physics. AWD drivetrain losses are much more than only FWD or only RWD drivetrain losses. There's simply no controverting this point. I saw a vid of a lightly tuned V6 Accord pull a stock RS HARD.... how much you wanna bet the RS was in high-rwhp mode setting?
@badams03118 жыл бұрын
+Numinous that's incorrect. I guess you didn't read through the rest of the comments. The drive modes do no dictate how much power goes to what wheels. Torque vectoring is always on and adapting, as is the RDU. This car does not "lock" power one way or another. It simply shuffles power where it needs to be. If the car where in either normal or drift, it doesn't change where the power goes under normal driving. Lastly, we don't have a "low" or "high" dyno setting. The dyno is calibrated and that's what it runs. With the RDU unplugged, the only thing not powered is from the rear axles and out. The PTU, driveshaft, and rear spool are all engaged.
@BeeeeEssss8 жыл бұрын
Lol 270 HP from stock, really? That is sad. I thought this thing is supposed to pull 350 stock, what happened? You can get the ST to these #s.
@badams03118 жыл бұрын
Sigh... That's wheel horsepower. You know, the real thing that matters. Not crank horsepower
@BeeeeEssss8 жыл бұрын
+badams0311 yeah but still, there is roughly 15% power lost in the drive shaft, if that is the case that still only brings it up to 310HP. 350 and 310 is a huge difference. I also know the the US version of the RS is gimped, probably due to the stupid EPA regulations, just wanted to point that out.
@badams03118 жыл бұрын
+Nerd Drivel nope. Not true. It's a global car and the tunes are the same from over seas. I can assure you on that. And how did you calculate a percentage loss in a driveshaft? Or any type of drive train loss in this car for that matter?
@BeeeeEssss8 жыл бұрын
+badams0311 it might be a global car but EPA regulations are not. The RS is full of problems at the moment. But that is expected with first year models. By the time I'm ready to pick one up they should have the AWD system all worked out.
@badams03118 жыл бұрын
+Nerd Drivel Nope again. Power output is the same. So is all the smog equipment on the car. Oh really? What problems? I'm sure I wouldve seen something by now with a bunch of problems out there. Especially with how hard we run the car all the time. I guess I must have the shining star

A downpipe wont help with making power? Tf this tuner smoking?
@mattb39108 жыл бұрын
not with these tiny turbo's..it won't help much
@TakeitEasyG8 жыл бұрын
/facepalm besides a tune the best performance enhancing mod you can do on ANY turbo car is a downpipe.
@mattb39108 жыл бұрын
TakeitEasyG Not true...best mod for my Focus ST is an IC. A downpipe, when tuned for it, doesn't help much. Spools up a bit quicker (which is not actually helpful). Why you ask? Because the turbo is tiny.
@TakeitEasyG8 жыл бұрын
"A downpipe, when tuned for it, doesn't help much." Let me stop you there. A downpipe will 1. Help lower boost threshold, 2. Increase torque under the curve. 3. Reduce the heat trapped in the engine compartment. Your IC is helping lower IAT's, which with small snails is only a problem with prolonged periods in boost. While helpful, only with turning up boost pressure will a larger IC really be worth it. And to do that you will need a tune... So re-read my second post again ;)
@mattb39108 жыл бұрын
TakeitEasyG "A downpipe will 1. Help lower boost threshold, 2. Increase torque under the curve." Let me stop you right there. The DP is not a significant restriction to the turbo. I had a DP installed on a stock ECU ST and then had it tuned for the DP. There was barely any difference....slightly quicker spool up (which is actually a traction hinderance with the KO3) and combustion temps/EGT where not reduced much. The same 22.xx lb's of boost was reached at nearly identical RPM's. #2-IC's...again your incorrect in regards to the ST. The stock IC on the ST is incredibly inefficient. On a single WOT pull, IAT's increase 50-100F over ambient. I have lot's of data logs to prove it (this is common knowledge in the ST community). High IAT's will result in timing being pulled on the stock ECU and when tuned, boost and timing will be limited. Also, you do not need a tune for an larger/aftermarket IC. The MAP sensor on the cold side compensates accordingly. Try again.
@MasterCarguy44-pk2dq8 жыл бұрын
Its not really "drift mode." It's rwd mode, as Ford RS engineers have told me at my dealer that I work at. And with just rwd on, the rear can step out like a mustang GT or camaro, under power in turns.

You should probably go tell the Ford engineers that they're wrong and you're right, figuring it out from a youtube video about the AWD not needing to be tricky to get the car to do what we want it to. Only people I see type out "Symmetrical" are usually fanboys. Yes the Evo X's AWD is fantastic though, but I remember the suby people saying it was too complicated as well lol.

For $40k+ upgrades etc arent you better off buying a german car and go from there? People slap turbos to civics...but your still driving a civic. Thats my point. At least your getting all wheel drive in this focus.
