Talmadge is so damn apealling. He's got it going. Hes gorgeous. He's shy, adorable, innocent, and yet strong and brave. And seems like a really nice guy

My only beef with this show is that in real life Sarah Livingston is actually not a Torry! Her husband is none other than John Jay! He was one of the authors of the Federalist Papers! Otherwise this is my favorite show ever.

I didn't know that! To give them the benefit of the doubt, this is a less posh Sarah Livingston, so maybe they ignored the name coincidence.

@@hermioneonice I didn't know it when I first watched the show. The show got me curious enough to research the names. Look up Simcoe. They took a few liberties with his character as well, I believe.

They took liberties with a lot. I guess it made the story more interesting, with personal conflicts and love angles

It's a very cringey and shitty thing to say.

Then, Ben just starts smiling. He probably wanted to laugh but he was scared his stitches would come out. Ben didn't want to put Sarah through any further trauma and bullet removal complications because he truly appreciated what she did for him already. After she removed the bullet from his side and then sewed up the hole, Ben says to Sarah "Thank you. I owe you my life." for helping him. Then a little bit later, she thinks he's asleep but he might also have a fever so she puts her hand on his face to try to find out. Then, Ben gently takes Sarah's hand and places her hand against his heart as a way of silently saying "Thank you" due to the pain. Then she gives him a kiss, and, by that point, he's likely thinking, "Oh, my. Is she going to do what I think she's just about to do? Yes, I'm in pain. Yes, this hurts like hell. But I'm not going to pass this opportunity up." After what she did for him since he feels bad for her because she found him laying on the muddy ground at night out in the rain. Right after she kisses him Ben is probably thinking, "OK, Here we go. Again, since I already can't thank her enough for going out of her way to help me by removing the bullet and sewing up the hole, I can silently thank her a second time AND distract myself. I just hope I get it right and I hope she will feel better. She's lost enough already." Neither of them are talking. Then, both of them go completely off the rails. After that, Sarah is freezing cold and what Ben does after that is just so, so sweet. Even though he feels a bit cold, Ben just takes off his shirt, silently he's hoping and praying that he can at least warm Sarah up a little bit, therefore, thanking her a third time without even talking. Then, both Ben and Sarah wake up holding onto each other, for dear life, as if it's the end of the world. When Sarah apologizes to him for what happened the night before, he's really nice and understanding about it, since Ben wanted to go off the rails with Sarah just as much as she did with him, and he wasn't joking about that, either. Guys actually prioritized having manners back then. They studied the code of chivalry, especially if they went to college like Ben did. Ben went to Yale at the same time as Nathan Hale did, and they were both really, really good friends. Back then in the 18th century, men weren't pushy, and they always took the code of chivalry very, very seriously. That definitely isn't the case today. Ben didn't need any "raising". He already knew and understood that women are worthy of respect, and should be respected, therefore. Especially in the case of when a woman just drags a guy she doesn't even know whom has been shot into her house, completely on the spot, removes the bullet, and then stitches the hole up without him even having to ask her to do so. Men took having good manners and etiquette extremely seriously back then. So, considering that as being sweet, appreciative, and polite, even in that particular situation, is an understatement. All I can say is wow. Just wow. This show is just way, way too underrated. I was absolutely blown away. If people still did things just like that, today, the world would be a much better place.

The way Ben was eating, it appeared more like he was starving! Like he hadn't even seen any food in days! I'm from a military family on both sides and I know war was and is really brutal. Trying to stay alive in the 18th century was no easy task. Then, Ben holds Sarah's hand because he felt bad for her. That is just so sweet.

@@hermioneonice she was great in this! so strange and a shame they didn't keep the character. Also, I find it interesting they edited out the preline "sometimes my husband's passions run ahead of his thinking too"- it adds context that made rethink what may have happened.

She probably does not get enough credit as an “actor” because she is actually an “actress”. Just fYI.

My friends who act and are female, prefer the gender neutral actor which is why I use it. Am not sure about Elizabeth's preference, but both actor or actress are correct for females. FYI :) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gender-neutral_language#:~:text=Other%20gender%2Dspecific%20terms%2C%20such,by%20some%20as%20gender%2Dspecific.
