Thank you, I know is an old video but still was helpful, I was using Pterodactyl Panel and it was a huge pain because if the server for any reason reached its maximum allocated ram (when usually didn't but the panel lied), the server shut down automatically. This panel seems to not do that so far, I am happy with it.

You may have a better time using Ubuntu or some other form of Linux to host - MineOS (to my knowledge) is currently broken. On the bright side, it's super easy to start a Vanilla server on Linux! And it can be a little difficult to install a forge server, but I just figured it out myself and it's not too bad either.

Quick question, on Ubuntu Server 20.04.3, running the install_mineos-node script gives a warning with nodejs saying that the version it will install is depreciated. So I was wondering how we upgrade that without messing with the installation? Do I just run `apt install nodejs` afterwards?

hey so I'm not sure if you'd be able to help out but I want to leave this comment just in case you may have an answer. I've currently gotten everything setup on the ubuntu side of things however when it comes time to actually sign into the mineos webui through the https you tell us to, it just brings me to a dead page saying it can't be reached. I've added the https part as well as the 8443 at the end and no luck. any chance you'd know how to get through this?

yes it gets replaced unless you have windows in a different hard drive, you need to switch the boot options depending on if you want windows or not

you need be a superuser. everytime you see a warning like this, use put "sudo" (without the "") before the command

it would work the exact same, as a vm acts like a normal computer. its useful to test some things or try it out before u do it on a real computer

Hey everyone definitely use the LTS version of Unbuntu.. the latest release will pose issues with starting the MineOS server. - At least I had FATAL on server start and resolved itself after reinstalling LTS. Also finally after futzing around I got comfortable enough the the command lines approach to swap over to Puffer Panel V2. So far have spun up a Paper, Forge and Spigot Server on my old i7 980X rig with a bunch of mods on forge (cuz thats what they like). But will play around with the paper instance but with 24GB ram (yes its a odd config .. has 6 ddr slots on this mobo). Its plenty for our family for a private server and will eventually open up ports if they want to invite friends :) So thanks on reigniting my old DOS personality and reminding me how fun it is! Liked and Subbed!

What version of windows do you have? If you have Windows home you could upgrade to Windows PRO which gives you access to Hyper-V where you could fire up a Linux VM and then setup and run your Minecraft server there. If you have Windows Home with no access to Hyper-V, you could also use a free hypervisor like VirtualBox, VMware, or QEMU. FYI, you'll need admin privileges on your PC to do most of this

The installation procedure would be the same! Then when you create a server, you choose a spigot or other type of server from the drop down menu at the top instead of downloading an official Minecraft server .jar file. -cb

YES. Understand that this is a client/server model. A Minecraft SERVER will need to be on to serve CLIENT machines that want to play on the server. A common approach is to take an old PC and turn it into a server (hardware requirements for servers are usually much lower). Then you can run services on it like Minecraft, Plex, Home Asssistant, Pi-Hole etc. That server machine can be kept on and running 24/7 in a closet somewhere with no screen or other peripherals (just remote into it through RDP, VNC, or a web UI to manage it). You then use your main gaming rig to log onto that server and play your game. That Minecraft server can be available to your friends even when you are not logged on and playing. The main thing a server machine will need more of is ram. You will run out quickly as you add more services. FYI old laptops make EXCELLENT servers. Hope this helps

You should download Ubuntu Server and then install mine-os as a package as I showed in the video. The video and links in the description will show you how to do that.
