This is a plate I Turned on a Wood Lathe from a pecan log. I cut up the log with a Chainsaw, dried the wood, the turned this plate on my wood lathe. Come along as I walk you through the process of making a Wooden Plate.

Nice plate Dean. Would have liked the dimensions you started with and also how you care for your plate. Also you mentioned twice when cutting to the center slow down but never told why this is important.

The plate is 9.5 inches starting with about a 10" blank. Care is simple I do not let food dry on it and I wash with liquid dishwashing detergent after each meal and dry with a towl. Do not soak in water, and do not put in dishwasher. When you near the center you do not have as much wood passing the gouge so slow down not as much pressure or you will break off the little nub in the center and have a bunch of sanding to do. Hope this helps.

Dean, do you ever make sets? I'm fixing to start making sets of dinner plates. Just curious if you've ever made many in sets.

Nicely turned plate, Dean. I really like how your video shows real time feed rates rather than 2,3,or4 times actual speed. how did you get a gloss finish with oil?
@DeansWoodworking3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment and Thanks for Watching. the gloss you see from the oil is because it is not completely dry at the time of the video. I have some better still photos on my facebook page. facebook.com/deansfinewoodworking/

How did you initially mount the plate without going to deep into the top side?
