Are you turning these from green wood? Or if not how do you dry the limbs for turning? Thanks, as a beginner this is a great video instruction!

Sadly, you did not turn a hummingbird house. Hummingbirds build cup nest, you build a cavity nest. No hummingbird will ever use that nest.

That's a very long winded way of making bowls. Just hollow the end grain out, then shape the outside. Then part it of. No rechucking required! I agree with @WesleyJolly on that one.

If I'm understanding lathe speeds correctly, this size piece would be good at approx 3000rpm, yes?

Dean, I really like this idea. I have an Elbo Hollowing tool that I love dearly and use very frequently. Since it has a bar that goes down inside the vessel, I'm wondering if there is a way to merge the two. Maybe I could use the bar and not need to move the tool rest. I' working on that idea but if you think of it before me, please let us know. Many thanks for the great vids you do for us. Joe

My question is about the wood you used . I'm unable to orient the grain direction. My first thought was that it was a limb with grain running end to end? My experience, however, tells me that end grain isn't any fun. Any help you can give about the blank you started with will be greatly appreciated!

Great information to know. Thank you. My cozen gave me a table top cabinet with a broken tipped seam ripper that I figured I might fixup to do some detailing with. I have grounded a bevel onto the longest point and took off the short one. Yes I will be extra careful when I try to use it seeing as my hand will be extra Close to the wood, more so than with my other tools.

Thanks for this video! I've been looking into the VersaFlo systems and i really like them... not so much their price. But, with a 3M helmet and hose, and a filter like this, i can get very similar results for sub $1000, thanks!

Love the twig pots. Been making them from glue ups and 2x2 & 3x3 wood, so no bark. But, i have a 3'x3'x5' storage box that has been full of limbs. It acts like a kiln in the Florida sun. Some have been curing for 2 years, all at least a year. Im going to get some out today. I also do a lot of cactus pots. Got that from Kent on "Turn A Wood Bowl" on KZbin. Thanks for a great refresher course.
