Heads up!! That power supply has a very beefy 5V rail with 40A output. That makes it extremely sought after for retro builds using Athlon and Pentium III or older systems. Were you to remove this PSU and market it correctly in a retro PC forum, you could probably get 50-60AUD from that piece alone. Something to keep in mind in the future when dealing with older power supplies. It actually has great ratings for use as a retro machine.
@cdnron7510 ай бұрын
It would be sought after if the listed ratings are true, which I can pretty much guarantee they aren't. I've been in the business for over 20 years and have seen enough cheap power supplies to know that the specs have been faked. A quick search on the Interwebs also shows that these aren't quality units. Comments from different forums regarding iCute's quality: "iCute PSU's are rebranded from Ultra which are not good." "Replace it as soon as possible. Budget PSU's are sometimes a danger to the rest of your computer components." "Should I replace + iCute PSU = Yes, do. Before you regret it!" "Yes, get rid of that piece of garbage quickly." "be warned: icutes are infamous in my side of the world for being hand grenade power supplies. dont use it for anything critical or expensive as it lacks proper working short circuit, overvoltage, overcurrent, overpower and overload protection"
@dougtemple847410 ай бұрын
@@cdnron75I've similarly been in the business for over 20 years, and I've also seen many cheap power supplies. This is more likely to be able to power an Athlon 1GHz system with a GeForce 4 Ti4600 than a modern power supply with a 10-15A rating on 5V. Furthermore, I can find people saying negative things about literally any product by searching the "interwebs."

Depends on what you use it for. I rock an i5 12400f and a 3060TI n feel like I already need a upgrade. My son wanted to play forknife and some other garbage like Roblox and battle bit. I spend next to nothing on a T1650 computer from dell and modded the case to take a bigger GPU, popped in a better PSU and built him a respectable PC with a Xeon 1230 v3 and a rx 580. The build cost me around $200

Battlebit is good, though. It's like Battlefield made by Battlefield fans, with all the problems of modern BF games fixed. Roblox can be good depending on whose game you're playing. I recommend Dream Thief. What do you need an upgrade to do?@@HardWhereHero

Yes!!, The series is back. I'm excited wiiee!! Ever thought of setting up a Steam caching server at home for when you test PCs with games? That way you don't have to wait all night for games to download and if you set the server up with a 2.5GbE NIC, you can pop another 2.5GbE card into a PC, transfer games fast and then take it out to use on other PCs later down the line. Just a thought.
@vinyfiny10 ай бұрын
If that PC was used for basic PC tasks and light gaming there's no reason the previous owner wouldn't think it was working fine. Most people don't check power supply specs and run Heaven benchmarks. Could've been a cheap PC they bought used just like you did, but they didn't have the knowledge to know there were any issues. Also do you sell PC with undervolts and various BIOS changes? What if the buyer ends up resting the BIOS for some reason or reinstalls Windows? The changes you made will reset and it could go back to crashing/overheating. When I used to flip PC's I always tested and sold them with stock everything to make sure they were stable at a baseline.
@cdnron7510 ай бұрын
Same here. I run a system completely stock and stress test it at stock to make sure everything works. Undervolting and BIOS changes to stop it from overheating is not a proper fix. This video gives me used car salesman vibes.

@@Jinny-Wa Most of the time that's the case. I was looking at it from the perspective of a seller though. I would have replaced it simply to lessen the chance of a bad experience for the buyer first and also the headache of it going out a few hours, a couple of days to a week or two after leaving the shop and becoming a comeback issue with a possibly angry customer. If your making money flipping, word out mouth goes a long way in both directions. Good or bad.

Brilliant as always Bryan.... As someone who built their first DIY PC around 2011 I think (first gen i7 920), I've built many a system for myself, family, friends, to sell, and refurbished and sold on parts on eBay/Gumtree (here in England) etc... I feel like I need to start shifting some great price-to-performance systems here if people still have the disposable income, luckily I was born in, and live in, a very student central city (Cambridge), so you can always bet on rich Chinese or foreign students with plenty of money too burn, not that I would overprice anyone. Cheers!

No profit - just did it as a favour to a good friend of mine.

So, instead of trying to compete with the PC gaming if I were you I'd personally learn some skills on how to setup devices and operating systems to run mobile games etc. on the side of usable classic games.
