Dr. Syl, you are still very young. I remember turning 30, and my friends tried to throw me a surprise party....oops. The surprise was on them. All joking aside , I was able to make some major decisions that would change the trajectory of my life in a good way. So, Happy, Happy Birthday - you deserve all the best that life can throw your way.🎉🎉🎉

Try turning sixty, to re-evaluate your life! I enjoy your videos always, and feel like you are contributing to world stability in your own way, by taking the time to listen to, and support those of us who are in deep distress. Enjoy your thirties, (they will go by fast), and happy birthday!

Hi, Dr Syl! My name is Helen, I'm a med student from Brazil, going through my third year now. This month when I discovered your videos I was studying Psychiatry at College and I feel like this is actually the first time I've loved something this much in Medicine. This is in some way, partly because of you. Thank you for sharing such interesting and thought out videos. This one specifically was really genuine and open and I appreciate that. It reminded me to enjoy my late twenties a bit more. In college, we are so caught up in learning how to take care of others, we often forget to take care of ourselves.

Thank you for being open and vulnerable. Turned 31 myself earlier this year but I haven't done much with my life so that's a point of anxiety for me. Your content has been helping me get through these walls that I've put up so I wish you more success and happiness. Much love and we'll be watching as always

You already contribute to global stability by actively listening to your patients, and offering psychological support to yourself first and others too if you do that.

I appreciate your perspective. I’m 45, but my career was completely derailed by my mental health. Now I’m on disability and working part time. It’s challenging to see forward movement when you’re kind of stuck. I’m hoping for all the best for you, and I hope you can continue to make positive content around mental health in the future. ❤

I loved this rant of yours turning 30. When i turnes 30 i freaked out a little more than i think i would. Especially cause i dont have all things in place. and no man or any family on my own. But as time went i calmed down and i really am more at ease. learned to not give as much of a f***. And im all for making my own life and not always turning to what society tells us.

Happy birthday! Travel is so good because you leave your every day space and return with different view from behind your eyes. Exotic connections are important when life is settled :) you probably excelled so much in your 20s that you’re ahead of most 30 year olds and that can be isolating at times. You’re clearly gifted and it’s hard to find friends at your level. I think teaching the lessons of love and cohabitation is the best form of global stability and the housing crisis. We are heard animals and need to reduce conflict and divorce.

Greetings! Long time no comment, so here I am. Great chat! I just turned 40 in June. Aside from the number, nothing seems really different so far. My 30s were probably the decade of greatest self-discovery, meaning I really started to understand myself and sort of create my own identity and own person. That was also the decade where things I should have taken care of in my 20s (such as, to the point of this channel, mental health) really came to a head. I actually do spend a lot of time reflecting and wondering if I had been proactive about that in my 20s, maybe things wouldn't have gotten as bad as they did. But c'est la vie. Here's to your 30s!

I honestly just discovered your channel a couple hours ago and binge watched some videos haha. But aside from the topics being interesting (and hitting close to home - I have friends who have struggled with psychosis and BPD, as I'm sure many do) I found the videos refreshing in a way - you are still quite young but very knowledgeable and very passionate about the subject matter, and very positive and relatable. So it was interesting (and honestly kind of impressive) to hear you wonder how you can apply your skillset to help improve world stability... as someone in my 30s it is actually something I am also asking myself a lot lately, so that really resonated. And I guess the best answer I can give is to just keep it up - being positive, passionate, knowledgeable, relatable, both with your patients and online. Stay fit, eat well, have fun, and always keep learning, and I have no doubt you will inspire others to do the same🤘The world seems increasingly negative, polarized, and distrusting of science, and it is people like you who are the answer. Big respect for what you've been doing, cheers from Canada, and enjoy your 30s!

Thanks so much for showing your authentic self - really enjoyed the video and welcome to your 30s! It will be awesome - I've not met anyone who thought their 20s was better than their 30s despite the trepidation heading into the new decade. For those worried about the turning 30, I promise you will not morph into a pumpkin on your 30th birthday! The best part about being in 30s I've found is the newfound sense of self and self assuredness that comes with having a 3 at the start of your age =).

Welcome to the 30s club, I think the best advice I can give you that I received is that give yourself an extra heap of grace when it comes to the past and any possibility of mistakes you could have made in your 20s, guilt isn't useful but you can reflect and the awareness will be something you're see a boost in. Again, all the best for your life - whether it's personal or professional. 🎉🎉🎉

I'm 23 and I relate to a lot of this. I got sick with CFS last year and I relate to exercise & diet now being more about health & stability as opposed to appearance, and to worrying about not having had enough fun when I was younger and more able to. Btw, a video on CFS and its connection to psychology would be cool! Happy bday.

Happy belated birthday! I read somewhere that you can see the years of life as levels and the life as kind of a game. Looking at it that way helps hopefully a bit to take away a bit of the heavyness and adds a bit of lightness. I am already Level 40, but no pressure, you will get there too! 😉 For me turning thirty was also a big deal. I wanted to stay in my twenties forever. But I can assure you being in your thirties is completely fine. Enjoy it!

Dr. Syl congratulations for your 30. th 🎉! I find this video quite interesting because I kind of see real you. I have commented on many of your other videos but unfortunately for me you never answered any of my questions. However, you just mentioned a tiny bit about your vulnerabilities and I feel left question if you have possibly any cluster B personality. I was trained as RN and dietitian and I met a lot of doctors throughout my working career. Most of them were narcissists, but as doctors were very capable. They might be a pain in the backside to work with, or possibly to be married to them, but they actually were quite capable and I would say more than that empathetic ones. I think that for best outcome for patients is an empathetic nurse and narcissistic doctor 😂, true! Best of luck in your life!

Firstly Happy 30th Birthday. Secondly.. Please let me know when you have completed your training in Psychiatry so I can book an appointment before you have a wait list and then cannot take anymore Patients. I loved the way you said you will have more time once you have your own Psychiatry Practice. Its impossible at the moment in Brisbane Australia ( and probably everywhere in Australia) to get an appointment with a Psychiatrist. Waiting list from 3 months to 6 month but most are not taking on any new Patients. This has also been in the Private Sector. I need a change in my medications and I am currently an outpatient with the Public System, Mental Health Acute Care Team. I have just tried the antidepressant Buproprion and I live by myself with my fur baby cat Bella. I had the most frightening experience on Buproprion at night thinking someone was breaking into my home and more scary stuff I won't share on here. The stuff deep inside our minds and what gets stirred up or more like the brain starts processing everything from when you were a child etc.gets down overnight.. Much quicker than four years of psychotherapy three days a week ( I have done in the past). I think every training psychiatrist, psychiatric nurses need the experience of trying these medications to truly gain the insight and empathy and education of how scary it can be. And then understand why Patients will go off their medications or then learn to use illicit drugs as they discover from the psychiatric medications prescribed to them how they can elevate and energise or sedate and numb the pain. I know you are an Excellent Dr and understand all of this already. I just need to find a meducation that is going to work for me now I am 53 ( menopause etc) diagnosis of Cyclothymia ). I have been on Pristiq 100mg and Lamotrogine 100mg twice a day since 2011. But the pristiq is not working as effective as before and it also effects my libido ( besides menopause stuff) and from recently trying the Buproprion there were some good aspects.. My libido was back and I could cry.. which I need but it just kept me too elevated and it was 150 mg of Buproprion but I dont think there is a smaller dose and it was Buproprion Sr ( sustained release) which I have now learnt about besides the Xr ( extended release in other medications). Psychiatric Medical Teams never tell a patient enough about the medication release aspect and the how's and why. Also Buproprion is on the PBS if I were to be using it for stopping smoking ( nicotine). I am now thinking of trying Valdoxan but its not on the pbs but apparently that helps with libido and has a melatonin component to it? My issue is I just can't get out of bed in the morning..very low mood/ energy even with a good sleep hygiene. Anyway, I am aware you are not allowed to give advice etc and I am not asking you directly. But I do follow your Monday Medication Reviews and if you havent already, could you do one on Valdoxan please and any others that you may think would benefit other people ( but mostly women going through Menopause) there is a lack of expertise in this area when a Woman already has a Mental Illness. Keep up the great work. I agree with you about " History " I am more interested in it to and how it wad taught to us in schools etc was rubbish or maybe its just our developmental and brain stage at that time of life isn't ready to care.🤣

No Dr syl your not less attractive still very handsome and actually your mind is very attractive because you are an intelligent guy. Agreed I'm almost 40 and have two autistic children. They are 8 and 10. We are going to Amsterdam and it's true you too can still do all of those things you enjoy. I like how open and honest you are and love the topics you cover in your channel. Good for you Dr Syl you seem to be smashing your life journey. In regards to the topic of history I totally agree I've learnt more about history as an adult but not due to the way I was taught but due to my autism. I just couldn't retain the information and am loving exploring history as an adult because it's more relatable as you get older. Also Covid played a big part in our history so like you say it makes you more aware of history and in some ways a little anxious. Over and out Dr Syl enjoy your 30s 😃

I'm 27 so this video was interesting to me. I am in the field of psychology (master's level), and now I am preparing for my licensing exam. I have also always had a (mostly) clear career path. When I was doing my bachelor's I knew the next step was graduate school, or preparing to be marketable for graduate school. And I have seen many of my friends struggle with career decisions and career anxiety. So, I think committing to a long-education career (been studying for the past seven years) can often be a struggle but also a blessing because you kind of always know what is the next step. Regarding age, the "decreasing attractiveness" worry that you mentioned is So relatable to me, especially as a woman. I am still working on that.
