Always fun to make duplicates. I liked the use of a "story stick" to match size and shape.

That’s a great idea Sam we all need to be making plate bowls for our kitchen I like to challenge. Thanks.

Good job Sam, I believe these turnings which we use everyday in our lives hold a special place. 👍If good ol salt of the earth, best of the best, our friend Dave is in need of ridding himself of this stock, please advise......I'll even eat the shipping to O-H-I-O. 😂👍

Very nice set of plates Sam! The oil you used really brought out the character in the laminate. Cheryle's gonna love those on her table! Take care, Dave

This is a very timely video for me as I am just starting the process of making 18 serving dishes for a daughter; just as you mentioned no two will be alike but they all will look similar. You detailing of the recess is of particular interest to me as I am trying to develop a way to form the recess and not have to turn the plate back around to eliminate the recess to speed the process.

Very interesting video Sam. I spent quite a bit of time learning how to make box turnings like salt and pepper shakers look similar when I first started turning. Hadn't considered that the same kind of consideration is sometimes needed for bowl turning; this was highly instructive.

Nicely done. I like your technique of disguising the recess for the chuck.

Very well done Sam. The bowls, yes I think they are bowls, not plates, are quite good looking. The laminated wood produced very interesting patterns and color contrasts. Your production is very good too. Generally your commentary is very good. I think it's best when you do voice over. I do have a couple of comments there. It would have been good to mention how deep the bottom recess is. Also what grits did you sand to. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂

Did this piece start as 2 inches thick? Great design decisions, nice result.

Maybe a little less than 2" thick. Sam

I really like how those turned out. In your opinion, where do you draw the line between a shallow bowl and a plate??
@WYOMINGWOODTURNER Жыл бұрын
Good question. I called them Plates cause they would be used for eating---terminology??

Another excellent video Sam. I was interested in the collet handle you talked about in previous videos and was just wondering if you can use square or rectangular tangs in the collet handles and if so is there a special collet insert for them. I noticed your scraper was in a collet so I was curious

Charles Actually a Square or rectangular tool will fit in these collects. It is just a matter of finding a size that will clamp down on the tool. I have a couple tools like that. One is the robust skew chisel which is rectangular and it fits very nicely into what I think is a half inch Collett Sam

Interesting exercise in useful repetition, Sam. Hope the lamination stands up to frequent wet washing. What do you think of sunflower oil as a food safe finish? At a demo I watched a chap turn out similar plates at 13 minutes per piece, and used this oil. Never known it otherwise. Bernard.

I have not used sunflower oil.....should work however. Sam
