Turning a B-size RAM ball

New motorcycle, new problems. How to mount the GPS? With a RAM mount. OK, but these are unavailable. Then wat? Make one, of course.
I was too impatient and cheap to order the ball. No problem, turning one takes less than a minute on my small Emco lathe.
Final pass was done with high feed to create a rough surface on purpose. With a small piece of bicycle inner tube over the ball this gives excellent grip, even better than the original

Nice Machine...... ; -) Your Spindlemotor is a AC Servomotor, i think? How many Watts have this Servo? Do you changed the Spindlebearings for a higher rpm range? How many rpm makes your machine now? I am thinking about converting my Emco C8 to CNC, do you use a Mesa Card for LinuxCnc ? The whole configuring and flashing of the Mesacards are nasty for a non Linux nerd, perhaps i use instead Mach3 with a UC100, enough ports.....especially for such a small lathe.

Yes, spindle motor is an 1kW ac servo. I did not change the bearings, but I did change the grease for some SKF highspeed grease (LGLT2 or something like that?). Machine does 2700rpm now; Chinese servo errors out above that. I used Mesa hardware and LinuxCNC, but there is nothing wrong with Mach or UCCNC of course. Use what feels best.
