Great run-through! I couldn't help but think this is a great way to make a set of nested bowls too! I also really liked your tip on microwaving the final product.. Don't think I ever would have made the leap to the kitchen in the middle of a project like this! Thanks for sharing!

Really interesting project so many thanks. It's very important for beginners to realise how unpredictable a band saw can be when trying to cut out pieces of log so your video demonstrates excellent safe practices. I nicked two fingers recently through carelessness. Thankfully they have healed but they could so easily have been lying on the floor. [My fingers I mean!!]

I'm getting into some woodworking and have been looking for a reliable bandsaw.. What do you have and what type of blade are you using for trimming the logs. I have some need to saw some logs.

Hi..... nice to see your Canadian Flag in the background. I'm a Texas misplaced Canadian from the Ottawa Area... Born and raised in Hull Que. I just subscribed to your channel. Very interesting video. First time that I see that jig system. SAFE is the word here. I am assuming that you are the supplyer! If not.... Where do I get one? Do you ship to the US? A reply to Robert Goforth 2 years ago...... 1-Bandsaw boxes is a craft of it's own. I agree with making bowls on a lathe... That's what I do. However, 2-The little ripper makes a tough job easy, precise and SAFE.... free hand ripping of logs is not easy, I'm always tense when I do it.

hi, i want to buy a bandsaw. what size would you suggest i buy. i don't want to have to upgrade after i get experience using it.
@StockroomSupply6 жыл бұрын
If it were me I would go with a 14" bandsaw with at least 12" of resaw capacity. Gives you a relatively small footprint but with a very large capacity. My personal favorite saw on the market today is the Rikon 10-326...but I am very biased as I am a Rikon dealer :)

pretty cool, but Id still rather use the band saw to rough out a blank and then use my lathe to turn a bowl. MUCH more versatile on the lathe

Wouldn't it be easier on your saw- if you adjust the length of the bandsaw ? It seems like an awfully long band length. Adjusting the top down would keep your bandsaw from snapping. I actually saw a video where someone snapped their saw blade and said he was glade he had his glasses on . I am noticing people don't seem to be adjusting the top piece above the saw blade- up and down to compensate for the height- of what is being sawed?
@gl70116 жыл бұрын
Joy Montague That's intentional. It's by design. It's called a riser block. It's used to create more clearance between the top of the saw blade and the table...
@fxm57156 жыл бұрын
Eric Hughes: I think you are confused. I'm pretty sure she's just talking about the upper guides and guidepost. Yes, Joy, you are correct. It's best to keep the blade as well supported as possible by adjusting the guides to minimize unnecessary blade deflection.
@robertgoforth89399 жыл бұрын
The little Ripper alone costs more than my lathe did. A lathe gives much better results and is a lot more versatile than those 2 jigs

There's already tons of videos of people turning bowls on lathes.
@MrJamesbaker059 жыл бұрын

@fxm57156 жыл бұрын
On the other hand, you now know the kind of jig you can whip together out of scrap and bits of old hardware in the shop, and make bowls like this without spending a dime. Half the fun of making stuff is making the stuff you need to make other stuff.
@kotcherd4 жыл бұрын
@@fxm5715 Agreed. I can't see spending over $300 for a jig to make this type of bowl. My lathe costs less.

If you don’t own a lathe its not too bad I suppose.
@wewanttobefree417 жыл бұрын
if you would loosen the blade tension after you finish cutting your bowl never leave it tight overnite because it will make flat spots on the drive wheel causing the wheels to vibrate also making the whole saw to vibrate

What a silly and expensive way to make a bowl. You could buy a nice lathe and tools for the price of this thing and make bowls the proper way.
@aubreyaub9 жыл бұрын
Me, I like it. This way, you can keep your money, by not buying a lathe. How silly is that.? Just showing the world a way to do "stuff", when you don't have "things".
@Josef_R9 жыл бұрын
aubreyaub You don't think before you say stuff, huh? You have to buy this. Over $1000 worth of "stuff" here. You could buy a lathe for far less and do way more things, or you could spend lots of money on this and do 1 thing. And not very well at that.
